Let me start by saying I do NOT think this is an issue with my Jamroom coding or my JR server.
I'm not having other members report this, and none of my 6 moderators nor I experience it either and we're all active on my site daily and have different setups.

But i have a member who says he randomly gets the following error when going from one page to another (when he's on my site only, on both his laptop and phone, in both Chrome and IE browsers):
'You do not have permission to access this server'. He says it follows no pattern in occurrence, but is happening regularly for him. He's not computer savvy.
I feel sorry for him and was hoping I could point him in some GENERAL direction to find out where his problem is coming from. Is this error message a clue as to whether he's having a browser setting issue, a firewall, or something else going on on his computer setup? Any little thought would be appreciated, so I could at least suggest for him where to start looking. Thanks!

How is he seeing this message?
Does it just flash up between pages?
Does he get the message and then have to do a refresh to get the next page?
Is it on a partially loaded page?
Let us know.
Thanks

Hi Paul, hope you are well!
I think it might actually be quicker to show you his thread, which is not very long... I hope you don;t mind- he's given me a bunch of clues so far but Im not sure what to make of them:

So it seems that he's tried different browsers etc. and still intermittently gets this issue.
I'd suggest that he contacts his ISP to see if they are somehow occasionally blocking your site, or maybe a server that might be used on the root to your site.

Thanks Paul, that makes sense. Maybe it's because he's in UK and I have not applied that europe cookie advisory thingy that was a big thing a few months ago?
I'll let him know to check with his provider that they're not blocking my site.

Thanks for giving us the exact wording: "You do not have permission to access this server"

That wording appears in 5 locations in jamroom, 4 of them are in the jrBanned module and 1 is in jrUser.

in jrUser its a check for banned 'bot's that are banned via that jrBanned module, so all those messages are related to something setup in
DASHBOARD -> ADMIN -> BANNED ITEMS

Take a look at what you've got setup there and see if anything could match the user your interested in.

Thanks for this Michael. I've checked his username and email address in my Banned module..nothing there. But now I have to wait until he logs in from his normal home address so I can see his IP address in my dashboard... so I can check to see if I've banned anything in that IP area. I doubt it though, since he's in UK and I can't recall ever banning an IP from that country... but I'll check it!

UPDATE: I got additional information from this member which might provide more clues:

"....we use mobile broadband at home rather than any kind of fixed router (we live on a boat and are always moving around the UK canals). So our IP address must be changing all the time.
As I mentioned on the site, I did notice yesterday that even when I had the problem on WiFi, I could connect okay using the mobile data on my phone, which is a different ISP from my 'home' WiFi connection (even though that's also based on a mobile hotspot)... So I guess that would fit with a problem with my ISP. It's just that I could swear I've had the problem at other people's homes with different ISPs. Anyway, it does seem like I may have a workaround for now, if I use my phone's data rather than my 'home' hotspot....."

Got his current IP and there's nothing remotely within his "82.______" IP range that's in my banned module.
He's still experiencing this.
I suggested he change his account settings for my site to a non-hotmail email address, just in case some server doesn't like hotmail. Also checked in mailgun- no supressions or bounces for his email. Not sure what else to check.

Did he contact his ISP? That fact that this only happens to him intermittently still makes me think its on their end.

If you can tell us what URL he is using when he sees that message it might help us.

Thanks!

I really appreciate all your helpful suggestions, my friends!
Because i'm not getting other members complaining about this issue on my site, I'm going to call this issue 'completed'. If more of my members complain, I'll open a new thread.
This member said he can access my site on his phone fine, so that's the solution for him. Thanks !!

Love his lifestyle choice. Sounds idyllic.

Traveling on a canal boat playing dulcimer music. :)

I suspect it's not all it's cracked up to be. (dirty laundry, damp and claustrophobic, everything smelling like tar and old fish....)
;)
