solved Error with using Like Button

When people (including me) click "LIKE" button on both my sites, the like button refreshes but does not change to show the Like. So I wind up clicking it multiple times. Also, the Like action does not show up right away in my main page activity feed- there's a longer delay than there used to be. When I go BACK to revisit the item page, then the button does show the Like.
I am seeing these errors in my activity browser every time a member "Likes" something-see attachment.
Looks like it's been going on for a while but I just looked into it today. Integ check doesn't solve it.
Thanks for any help!

And again-- my edit to my above post doesn't show up... until I post a NEW post here, like this one. (see my other thread from today)

(Wanted to add that an integ check doesn't help the Like button issue.)

A large round of updates has gone out this morning including updates to the Like It module - update and let me know if that fixes it for you.

Thanks!

I applied it and did integ check and cache, and restarted my browser too.
I still have to click on the Like button 3 times to get it to update and show my like added.
But, the Like does now show up in the main page activity feed quickly, which is an improvement.

I'm still getting these errors though:

Try running the integrity check again with all the checkboxes checked. That should fix up the database side of things.

Thanks Michael. I always do check all boxes when doing Integ check. But yes, i did it again just now, and restarted browser etc.

I still have to click on the Like button exactly three times before it changes the button to show my like registered- the button 'refreshes' at each click but does not change until the third time I click it. And perhaps most telling, i still get the same error message in the Activity Log. (same type error as in my last attachment)
I'm trying to get my moderators' feedback on whether this is happening to them as well on their systems.

Hey Michael-
did you do something? This morning I updated a bunch of modules, then ran integ check, cleared image cache and reg cache...
...and now the Like button does not take 3 clicks to show the new like, and it seems the error messages are not being generated in the activity log on my sites when a Like occurs. Did you make a fix?
One issue now suddenly happening though is that Likes are no longer appearing in my Main page Activity Timeline (on either of my sites)- whereas they were appearing fine just yesterday. I'll need to re-fix that so all likes appear in the Home page timeline again like they used to.
Not sure if you made a change or a fix while I was sleeping... ?

Great to hear. It wasn't me, it probably was the updates. I setup to try to figure out the problem, but couldn't reproduce it on my dev machine, it was working.

In order to fix a problem, you first need to be able to reproduce it and I couldn't. :( so im guessing its something in the updates that fixed the issue.

I'll look into the [i]".... Likes are no longer appearing in my Main page Activity Timeline ....." issue and see if i can reproduce it.

Thanks Michael...
Just to be clear, All member likes on items were appearing fine about 24 hours ago in my Index/Home page Timeline. Now they no longer appear there, though they DO still appear on the person's profile page Timeline. I need all site Likes to again also appear on the site's main page timeline, like they were before these latest updates. (This is happening the same way on both my JR sites.)

Thanks for being clear, its different than I was thinking. I thought you were saying the likes were not appearing on ANY timeline, but its actually just your homepage timeline that has stopped working.

That makes me think something has changed in the default module that needs tweaking on your home page code.

Clarification appreciated. Looking into it.

Thanks ever so much! Yes, that seems to have changed right after I applied the bunch of updates this morning.
I'm going to be offline here (NY time) most of the time between Sat noon and until sunday afternoon. In case I don't respond quickly tomorrow and tomorrow night, please don't think me rude. :)

Sure its not just the caching? Im testing here and seeing the like not show up immediately on the frontpage of your skin, but then after the RESET CACHE tool has been run, the like shows up (when clicking like on a soundcloud item by an admin level user)

I just tested it again on fotmd.com
-as master admin, I Liked another member's soundclloud audio clip. Then I cleared site cache., went to Main page, and refreshed page. Not showing in Timeline. Cleared cache again, refreshed again... still nothing.
Several Likes that I made earlier today on various items as tests (making them while logged in both as a regular member and as master admin) are STILL not showing (and no other member likes are showing there (on Home/main page timeline)... yet if you go back to the timeline from last night, older likes are showing there.
The last Like to show on the Main page was from 16 hours ago, by Robin Thompson. Usually we have at between 6 and 15 likes every day appearing in the Timeline on Main page.

Very sorry- it's late night here now and I have to get up early- so must go to bed.

This has been fixed in the latest version of jrLike 1.4.15 in the marketplace now.

Your site has been updated and should be working correctly now. Thanks for finding this issue.

This is all working perfectly again now- both the Like button instantly showing the new Like count (without pressing it 3 times), AND all likes showing on my two sites' Main page Timeline again.

It was very important to have all Likes show on the Home page- it stimulates members to go investigate items they may have not noticed, or to revisit items that deserve a 'second showing'. Likes showing right on the main page all day long is a HUGE part of keeping my members actively involved, and even in re-activating older members who suddenly see new activity on their older items.
Yay!!! :D

Thanks so very much Michael, you guys are the best!! :)

Thanks. Something I do about once a week when I have an extra five minutes...
I'll go look at either videos, photos, audios, or discussions from several years ago on my site and will Like several of them. This pops them onto the Main page activity feed in a way that's not too disruptive. It's great to see how much people will siddenly start commenting on the items anew, and enjoying them.

Often this leads to entire new conversations without my having to think up some new subject. And yes, the item owner gets notified of the new activity and they often get reenvolved too. Sometimes they have not visited the site for a while, and they're so pleased someone noticed their 5 year old item...they come back as active members, for a while at least. You never know where all this leads to, but it's almost always a good outcome.

I encourage my moderators to do this liking of older items occasionally as well. It's actually kind of fun to randomly mine for gold and then see what happens. 😃
