Latin artist names showing wrong

When Portuguese artists with accents on their names join my site, when me or them share their songs, videos etc on Facebook, their names show funny, example:

This artist's name is "KÁSSIO" but it shows up as "Kássio" when I share it.

This is likely due to the HTML encoding on the facebook page - I'm not sure those characters are going to properly pass through to Facebook via the URL (they are already encoded).

The artist link on my site is http://www.soabem.com/kssio, even though his name is KÁSSIO, is there a way around this so the url/link shows the artist name with English characters?

There is no English character for that character, which is why it was removed. Only characters that are URL safe will show in the actual URL - other characters are removed.

On JR4, artist names with accents on them showed up properly on social networks, another thing I notice is that users could personalize their own links/urls on JR4.

I don't believe JR4 was ever able to share to Facebook - unless you did it custom.

Users can change their profile name in their Profile Settings section - their URL will be generated from their name.

There was no share option Brian, but if I pasted a link to Facebook, it would pull the title, image and some text from the page.

That is the problem, having the url generated by the name, specially if you have a non English website.

True, nothings perfect. The alternative is urls like /user123456/ and thats ugly, or an additional box to enter the URL you want, and thats more work.

What do you think the best setup is for ease of use for everyone but still acceptable for your use-case?

The best setup would be something like you guys had on JR4, or on other sites like this other site of mine.

For example, I enter the video name: KÁSSIO - COMPLETAMENTE LOUCO - Official Video Clip!

and it turns the link into somehting like this:
...luso.com/kassio-completamente-louco-official-video-clip_a54c707f8.html

notice it removed the "Á" but it added an "a" to the link from the word KÁSSIO.

Another thing, when I share a video from this other site on facebook, the artist name shows correctly.

When I share it from my Jamroom site, it doesn't, so there is obviously something that can be done, I don't know what, but there is :P.
