Can anyone please give me a step by step in how to update "Top Stories" on this the MSkin5 template.

The closest I came to have something in there was via BLOG but then it shows my profile picture and I am unable to recreate the same Top Stories layout as per http://mskin.n8flex.com/

When i use a blog - I get a blog layout with my profile picture and i can not create what you have in your template - with an image to the left and article to the right of the image

Please do not give a reply like this from the template designer:

They are blogs. What don't you understand?

My website is onlyopera.com

Unfortunately, since we can't support the MSkin because it is a third party developer, it is hard to tell what is going on or what is needed to get the results your looking for.

Are you uploading an image when you create the blog for that section?

I'm not seeing anything in that section on your site, so I'm just guessing.

Oh Douglas,

I am at the point of crying. Apparently I have to use a blog to post to "Top Stories"

I will write a little blog - please g and have a look and you will see what I mean. The block image goes on the top, the block entry to the bottom and hence distort the template. I can not get it to look the "top story " as per the template sample on http://mskin.n8flex.com
alo if i do not add a block image i havea great open space with a ? mark in the place of the image

:(

When you add the image, are you adding it to the textarea or using the upload image button?

You'll want to add more text, the way it is setup it will only work when there is enough text to make the image float to the left.

Hope this helps,
Douglas

Thanks to Douglas on Jamroom Forum. He has taken a few minutes out of his schedule to assist me although this is a third party application.

Nate I have to say that I am disappointed that you couldn't take a few minutes to answer my question. Your remarks in your email led me to believe yo will answer my question in how you have done it - as per your quote in the email - yes.. I have to learn because I am a webmaster now BUT.. HOW TO LEARN IF THOSE WHO KNOWS IS NOT TEACHING STUPID PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF?

YOU must remember it is stupid people like us, relying on people with your expertise to assist us - that is why we are spending on the templates you create and then to get snotty remarks like above. Just know we dummies has dreams, it might not all work but we put pur bread on your table by supporting your designs

You can delete this by all means - but have had my say

@andre1122 Got some stuff here to help you get started:

For general Jamroom user stuff, check out this course, its free:

"Start Your Own Online Community"
http://www.udemy.com/start-your-own-online-community

and it runs through getting started with Jamroom 5.

Then if you want to move on to skin development and module development, check out this one:

"Developers Guide to Customizing Jamroom"
https://www.udemy.com/developers-guide-to-customizing-jamroom/

It costs $29 if you purchase it directly at udemy, but its Free to all subscribers to the backstage here at jamroom.net/subscribe. (and thats $29/year so a much better deal.)

and if you still want more, @b360 and I tested out doing live sessions yesterday via "Google Hangouts On Air" which worked pretty well.

Hoping to schedule a few more of them to talk to other developers and chat about jamroom development.

You can see the results of that on our youtube channel:

Micheal,

First off, Thank you. I have joined :)

Secondly my comments was 100% NOT geared towards the staff and developers of Jamroom. My God, if it was not for people like Brian, Douglas and Boblive then I would have given up loooong time ago. Jamroom support is of the best I have encountered.

My frustration was vented towards some third party providers who doesn't care about those who pays for their work. Simple questions will be met with sarcasm, snotty remarks. ( Ironically I nearly borrowed $1,000 to pay this guy to revamp the skin to an Opera feel). They will advertise a great product till you, the buyer want to display the same effects, all of a sudden they "KNOW NOTHING" just another attempt to suck more money and more enthusiasm out of your soul.

Well that is my bit for today. :)

Hmm, this one has me stumped. The code looks the same as the first so I don't see why it isn't stretching across the slider wrapper like the first one.

I've tried a few things with the template and nothing seems to be working.

Try adding a width to the containing div:
.slides div {
width:100%;
}

It looks like the html isn't right - nested p tags and maybe an end div out of place ?

The nested p tags might be causing the problem, there seem to be many of them in the page, but there are also incorrect span tags and places where you have class="myclass" being used twice in the same element etc.

Yes, Steve is correct, there are a lot of unclosed p tags, but I'm not sure where they are coming from.

You might mention this to Nate because his site has the same issue.
