Our email notifications are coming in like this.

Emoticons come through this way, too:
%%e538ebd2%%

%%8f412f7c%%

When you click the link within the email notifications, the actual posts and emojis are showing fine.

This 'gobbledygook' is only in the email notifications.

another example:
Here is the message that has just been %%342a8629%%

Help?
[I'm not sure what else to report. It does not seem to matter what sort of notification it is... main forum or Tracker or profile wall comment.]

I have checked for updates, run integrity check, cleared cache, signed out and signed back in.

Hope you can guide me/us,
Thank you

Those are replacements for emoticons (emoji), and should be stripped from email - can you let what notifications you are seeing with that in it?

Thanks!

Looking at this again was the emoji replacement string in the SUBJECT of the email or the body?

Thanks!

within the body (all of them)

subject lines OK

Here's an example I can share (this is a notification of a discussion in our main forum (a discussion I'm following).

A discussion topic you are following has been updated:

user: Teacher Lee
post: Verbs Ending in "-en"
view: http://lewwwp.com/community/main_forum/12641/verbs-ending-in-en#cm233606

Here is the message that has just been %%342a8629%%
Excellent effort and great sentences, Irina! Smile

***************
the "Smile" was an actual smiley face emoji... this emoji DID come through.

this post is here:

Several other main forum replies did come through to email OK.

The bulk of these oddities are with Tracker updates, private messages, support tickets (LEWWWP site support/help tickets).

Not sure if that gives you any further clues?

Is this still happening right now or are these old emails? JR6 specifically strips emoji from outgoing email, so I'm not sure why you are seeing this. Are you using the HTML email option or are your emails plain text?

Thanks!

? Are there separate settings for HTML for tickets / private messages?

Recent (last few hours) main forum notifications seem to be OK.

No - all emails are checked for emoji and if found they are stripped. Since you're seeing the "replacement" tags, that tells me the strip is working BUT it's setup to do a "replace", which should NOT happen on email templates.

I'll double check the code in that area and see if a function parameter was overlooked.

I just made a small tweak on your site to the email function - let me know if that fixes it up or if you still see the issue.

Thanks!

Sorry, back again.

In our private tracker notes, the email notifications are still odd.

Received this a couple of hours ago:

A new reply has been posted by %%7cb12529%%
[deleted text]

%%d74ad89a%%
[deleted text]

Question/FYI: both of these (and some of the gobbledygook from prior notifications, too) were 'quoted comments' (We have the 'quote' icon in place, and this was clicked so that a prior message was copied into the new post). Is this a possible clue for how/where to fix?

Thank you,
brian

Yeah the quoting is probably the issue. I'm not sure how to fix it at this moment but will check it out.

Thanks!

Actually I just thought of a very easy way to (hopefully) fix this - have added it in on your site, so test that again and see if it works.

Thanks!

This just came through in an email notification for a reply post to a private group:
"Here is the message that has just been %%e05c04b6%% [text deleted]

and is one where 'quote' was checked.

and I just tested in our tracker and this
A new comment has been posted by Holly %%8d7fa608%%

is coming through in email notification...

Wish I could report otherwise.

OK - that doesn't make sense if you are receiving HTML email, but I will check it out.

I have found one more way these might be sneaking through and will fix it up for the next core release.

Thanks!
