We are now on JR6, and I have installed and enabled simple chat but cannot see any options to use it. Cannot find any documentation either, any help appreciated.

It's pretty much "automatic" :)

Go into your ACP -> Communication -> Simple Chat and make sure in the "Quota Config" tab you have it set to just your admin quota (for now, for testing).

Save the changes then reset caches.

You'll see a new "chat" tab in the lower right of your screen - click it and the chat pane will slide out from the right side.

In the chat header:

- click your image to change personal settings
- click the DOWN ARROW icon to the right of the chat room title to create or delete chats
- click the users icon on the right to see who is in the current chat room with you.

Play around with it a bit and I think you'll get the hang of it really quickly.

I am logged in to your site right now and have turned it on for the "admin-enhance" quota - it was NOT turned on for that quota, so check that you didn't turn it on for another quota.

I see the chat tab now - let me know if you see it.

PS: If you have a Community quota (like I do, enable the chat on that quota too!)

hmmm... not seeing the little chat tab in the lower right of my screen. I think I set up the quotas, saved the changes, and then reset caches. But I still don't see it. Can someone post a screen shot so I know what I'm looking for?

You mean what the chat looks like? Or what the quota settings look like?

I enabled the chat for all my quotas (Admin, Community, Members - but not the suspended though ;)

Thank you for posting both of those. It turns out that I don't have a button that says "Enable Chat Access" - now what do I do? (see attached)

And yes, I did activate the module. :-)

You need to run an integrity check - that will fix that up.

Yay! It worked. I look forward to playing around with this - one of the features we missed when moving from Ning.

PS We are glad to report that we are now completely "Ning-Free"! I helped to move four Ning networks into three Jamroom sites and we couldn't be happier. Plus you're teaching this middle-aged non-coding women new tricks and keeping my brain cells active.

what mobile devices does the chat work on i cant get it on my android but its an s3?

check that you are signed in on your android into a quota that is allowed chat.

If you still dont see the button then, try accessing the mobile chat url directly
YOUR-SITE.com/chat/mobile
