User Moderator Settings Best Practices

Hey all,

I want to create a some new quotas and hoped to get your thoughts on best practices of modules/permission levels to work at. I have some logical guesses as to how to create these permission levels, but I am hoping someone with experience can weigh in on what success they found. Thanks!

1) Volunteer Forum Moderator - Can only modify Forum entries, standard user

2) Forum/Community Moderator - Can modify forums, comments, callander and approve items.

3) Web/Content Manager - Cannot edit or modify users, can edit the site pages

I can't help with all your questions, but one thing I'd like to clarify is about the default quota JR has for "Profile Admin".
A Profile Admin is like a moderator- they have the ability to edit/delete all content that has been CREATED BY A PROFILE (member). (they cannot modify/delete the posts of Master Admin though)
Keep in mind that all forum threads, posts, photos, events, comments etc have been created by your members...by profiles. So a Profile Admin can modify all such member-created content. But they CANNOT access the back end of the ACP and site code, skins, modules etc...so they cannot change any stuff there. They can see the Dashboard. They can't make system changes. I believe to access system settings you must be a Master Admin quota...and I'm guessing such a powerful quota would also naturally include being able to modify members/profiles and all their content.

Because 'editing site pages/content' in your 3) means editing content created by members, I don't think you can have a quota where you can modify site content created by profiles without having control in editing user or member profiles.

Correct - however there's no "master admin quota". Master Admins (and Profile Admins) have a special value for their user_group key:

"admin" - profile admin like you outlined above - can modify all PROFILE information, and has access to the dashboard to help "run" the site.
"master" - user is a master admin and has unrestricted access to the site, including everything an "admin" can do. Has access to the ACP to change how the entire site functions.
