Posting as admin

Whenever I post as admin under another users account this contribution does not appear in timeline even if I select the "share to timeline checkbox"

Is this a bug?

Thanks!

Only the user can add to their timeline. If you want to post as a user, you will need to log in as that user.

I am not talking about adding a user's timeline. When I share a video for him I want it to be visible in website's timeline.

What action are you doing when you say "share a video for him"? If you are putting a video on your own profile, it will turn up in your own home profiles timeline. When you do anything on someone elses profile as the admin user the timeline remains unchanged.

I go to his/her profile and click the video tab and add a youtube video selecting "share to timeline" checkbox.

If you say that this is not supposed to be visible in timeline I can understand that.

Any actions you do as admin on a user's profile will not show on any timeline. This is by design. As admin you may be 'moderating' so do not want all the site to know about it.

Yes, I can understand that but I would prefer "share to timeline" checkbox to function in case I need it to be available in timeline in the name of profile user.

Anyway, it is not the end of the world. Thanks for the information.

As I recall, both SoaringEagle and I asked for this function (to have our Admin posts show in the main page timeline)...and we got it accomplished. Alas, I can't find that thread by search terms now, and I can't recall which of the JR Team helped us get it done or how exactly it was done. But all my public posts, items, etc and those of my profile admins now do show in the main Timeline on Index page...which is really good because we do a whole lot of member encouragement and activity stimulation actions. Such as commenting on someones new video or responding enthusiastically to a thread or someone's new photo etc.

There is no way to "impersonate" a user in Jamroom. You can admin their profile and remove/edit things, but you can't post a new timeline entry as the user. Since it may be linked to OneAll, this could cause issues.

Brian, I have not actually tested that, but just for clarification:
do you mean that although we can change a member's password and then log in as them using the new password (their name showing at top that we are logged in under their account), ...that we still would not be able to post anything and have it show on the site as having been posted by them?

Well no - if you change their password and then directly log in AS THEM, then you are in their account and can do what you want. However OneAll may NOT function correctly since you were not the one to "link up" the account.

Ok so it's just if you have the OneAll module active then, I see...thanks. Sorry to digress off the thread topic.

I 'think' ilker means like if a member is internet-challenged or senior etc, and can't figure out how to post their video and asks you to please post it for them or something....so you want to go in and post their video on their profile and have it show as THEIR item. Is that right?

Jamroom already works this way - the video would be created on THEIR profile. The only thing that would not happen is a timeline entry showing that it was posted, since they did NOT post it :)

Absolutely, could not be explained better :)

So Ilker- maybe you could rephrase your original question, because I'm not quite getting it. Are you logged in as the other user, posting a video as them, and it's not appearing or something? ...in 'what' timeline?
This isn't jiving with the title of this thread- are you posting it as admin or as the regular member?

No, I am not logged in as the other user. Because I cannot (I mean should not) reset/change their passwords. But time to time I need to post their articles, guitar lessons etc for them. As you can imagine, it may be difficult for some users. For example, there is a member who sends his guitar lessons as emails. Because it is not so easy for him to add pictures, sound files etc into the contribution. But all these guitar lessons are invisible in the timeline.

You could email them back with a list of links to the items you created for them. Then they could paste the links into their status update and click to add them to their timeline.

You can't post an item as you (admin) and have it 'appear' to have been posted by someone else. But you CAN post an item and then use the Change Item Owner module to have them actually be the 'owner' of it and it will then appear in their profile stuff and will look to have been created by them.

But an item gets added to a timeline when it's created, not when the ownership is transferred. However, if you transfer it to them and then log in afterwards as a regular test member and you or some other member Comments on the item, the comment will show in the Activity feed and people can then notice it. Does this help?

Edit: good one UltraJam!

The user can, at any point, just share the new item created by the admin on their profile. That way it will appear on their timeline.
