Is there a way to automatically notify the members of a group if someone posts something new in the group?

Also is it possible for the group owner to email the members of their own group?

Thanks!

To 'follow' a group and be notified when a new discussion is created in that group....see my screenshot.

Answer to your second question is no, ...at least not yet.

Membver notifications are all set to ON by default, but if you have members who have adjusted some of there notifications to OFF, they'll have to be sure their Group Discussions notification settings are set to on to allow them to be notified ....even if they have 'followed' the group they'll need to have their notifications not set to OFF. See screenshot for the settings they should check if still not receiving notifications after Following a Group (called Group Watch), or following group discussions:

Thanks, strumelia - good info as usual.... Can I clarify something for myself?

Let's assume no one has changed their notifications. Since we have the member notification set to "send email" for both Discussion Updated and Group Watch, does that mean that any time a new discussion is added or updated, the members will get an email? Do they need to do anything to make that happen (such as clicking on the Follow button for the discussions)?

What if the group is using a general Comment Wall? Or if pages are added? Do they get notifications about those as well? Or only if someone posts an announcement about that in the Groups Discussions?

Just a note that this ticket:

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/tracker/1028/add-profile-and-user-targetting-rules-to-email-newsletters

is related to updates to the newsletter module for JR - it has nothing to do with Profile Groups. If we come up with a way to let group admins notify users, it will be a new module - it will not be the newsletter module (which is only for the master admin).

Just an FYI.

I've been testing this out on my groups and it looks like the default for notifications of group updates is actually off for my groups. In other words, it appears that the only way someone gets notified of an update to the group discussion is if they actively click on the button that appears by the discussions (see screenshot).

Is there any way to set the default so that they automatically get an update when a discussion is added or updated?
