Just a suggestion but are there any plans to make an advanced search?
Right now the search is very limited. I think it would be great on the result page to allow an advanced search where users can search everything on the site.
At the moment we have a genre section in one of the forms but it doesn't search those areas.
We are a punk site with about 181 profiles up so far on the build site.
at least 50 of them are genre: Punk ( Others are Hardcore Ska etc etc )
But the search only returns our profile in the profile area ( Punk Band Promotions ) as its the only profile with the word punk in it.
Unless I am missing something and it already has that capability.
I think the search on a music site is a very important tool.

Yeah this should be doable - the support for searching multiple fields is already in the module, but right now a module has to "register" the fields it wants to allow to be searched, so what we would need is an update to the search module that allows the site owner to add in additional module/field pairs that they want to allow searching to happen in.

I've got this on a todo and will look into getting it into a future update.

Thanks!

Sorry to thread jack, but on the same topic - maybe a "recent searches". Although technically this happens in the pop-down search suggestion.

Search results could also include "Popular Searches" which are top searches by all users. Just an idea.

You can already do this - all searches are stored in the Search module datastore, so you can list/order them just like anything else - i.e.

jrCore_list module="jrSearch" ....

Hope this helps!

I've just pushed out a new version of the Search module (1.2.0) that now lets you define custom search fields in the Search Global Config.

So for your use case, you would enter:

audio_genre

and that would add the audio_genre field to the search.

Let me know how that works out for you.

Hope this helps!

@Brian - I hate to spill the beans on this - and others may hate me.... but you can add the "profile_influences" field in the global config - therefore emulating the "Find New Artists" behavior....therefore bypassing the $9.

I just created a profile_influences custom field on a site without the "Find New ARtists" module, populated it, added it to the global config of the (regular) search module, and searched for it successfully.

Jamroom - You're welcome.
Others - SORRY!

And on that note - maybe you should just make that Module free =)

The Find New Music module does more than that though, as it takes the influences field and searches for popular audio on the site that matches the criteria - not just profiles.

Hope this helps!
