More about Notification

Hi all,

I have been getting a bunch of feedback from my community about the Notifications menu. And after going in myself to change the settings on 3 accounts, I agree that it needs improvement.

The current system uses a drop down menu as you know. This makes it extremely difficult for someone to do anything quickly. From a user experience point of view, everything is hidden behind menus. You have to click to see the menu, then click to see what is in that menu item, then click to change it, then click to save. This is extremely frustrating to go through and check each setting, much less to change.

MOST of my community has turned off all notifications because the menu is too difficult to setup individual settings. This is a huge loss of our community outreach and it's happening because it's easier to turn off notifications than it is to configure them.

Would it be possible to turn that drop down menu into a chart more similar to Quota Compare?

This is hard. I think what we will have to do is make it a config option. It WAS initially a table, and lots of people hated it. I think the newer designer is much more user friendly in that it does not "overwhelm" the user with so much text and choices displayed at once. With the current setup the user only has to look through the drop down list - they do not have to scan a giant table (and with a full module install in JR it's almost 40 options).

This is something we can check out for a future release.

Thanks!

I'd just like to throw in my two cents- I don't consider it a critical issue, but both I and several of my site moderators all liked the options layout way better before it got changed to a drop down window. I too think some people are now just clicking the 'turn off all' option rather than clicking their way all the way through that dropdown menu. I personally find it PITA when I go to check on some member's notification settings. Just saying.. ;)
