Not sure if this is a bug or just something that could be improved- but thought I'd mention it-

When using the 'change domain name' tool on my JR server, everything worked fine (I had registered my new domain and adjusted its DNS server 'Linode' names over a week ago.)
But once the dust had settled (which didn't take long at all) I noticed that all my member profile and user images had reverted back to the default image. Also all my Group avatar-images. Luckily it is a small test site and I only had a handful of members and about 30 groups. It was easy for me to reload those images, but I'm imagining a site with hundreds or thousands of members, and a hundred or more groups...could be a big problem for big sites. It's a good reminder to create a safe folder of the Group images you've used if you as Admin are the person always creating Groups...and copies of certain avatars you want to keep safe if you have to add them in again afterwards.

Other than that, it was a smooth process. I just had to remember to change a few links i had placed myself here and there, and a couple of header links.
Also I had to manually update the site's Profile Forum url (/forum) in my skin, and my 'system name' in the Core.

Changing a domain would never lose images - in fact it doesn't change anything on your site other than:

- it updates your data/config/config.php file
- it resets your template and database cache

We've had A LOT of domain changes on Jamroom Hosting, and have never seen this, so something else was at play here.

I certainly believe you Brian- some other factor or variable must have caused this then. If it's not something that happens normally and won't effect others, and since the images were easy for me to put back myself on my small test site...I'll just go ahead move forward with working on my new site's details. Thanks for your input!

curtis's idea could be right. If the URL was hard coded this could be possible, would need to see the templates and URL's to understand what the cause of the issue is.

If its working though, its working. :)
