New Stuff Forum

What I think is missing is that place where users go to see and read about what's new for them to check out. I know you have the announcements forum, but us 3rd party folks have no place to promote our products and receive feedback and suggestions. 3rd party products can be vital. So maybe an announcement page or maybe just a new products forum, I think would make jamroom.net more sticky, like it use to be.

I remember when there were dozens online at the same time. I would come see an announcement that was released just 2 hours prior and the responses would be already 3 pages long. That sense of community didn't move over with jamroom 5, but I think it attainable again.

The product is better than ever and your pricing is as insane as your support.

Whenever you put something in your timeline:
https://www.jamroom.net/n8flex/timeline

It turns up on everybodies dashboard page (screenshot). Could put a link there to your forum with a discussion page, or just use the timeline system to reply. It doesn't get much use here I think.

Yeah I meant a place for discussion. I'll try my forum and see if it works.

Caught your meaning, just wondering if you posting an actual timeline update might get the use of the timeline more active here on jamroom.net.

If you write an actual post on the timeline, others can reply to it. Its not used much here.

Hey, @michael what are the statistics of where people go when they come to the site? Because if a lot of people are hitting the JR forum first, then they'd never see what is on their profile page.

Personally, I view the JR site as more of a product site than a social network, even though it has the profile pages, etc. I think having a forum on the main JR board for developers to promote their products would be a good idea, if the statistics showed that most people who visit the site visit the JR forum first / most.

Just my 2 cents.

yeah, me too. I hardly ever go to my profile because there is hardly ever anything new posted in the timeline. chicken-egg.

most common places i view are the NEW POSTS thread and the tickets and support questions. After that, probably the docs.

Maybe having a "Developer Announcements" forum in the main JR forum would help promote developer's who are launching new modules / skins like @n8flex and others. Being that users probably are going to spend most of their time on this site on the forum (I'm assuming this since I don't have statistics on where users go on this site though it appears that's where a lot of users end up) that could give a boost to developers selling their products. More products sold = bigger ecosystem IMO.

Yep agreed- forum forum forum. I think it's a great idea to have a Developer's section of the forum, not only for developer's 'announcements', but also for users to ask for paid developer help, and for discussion of various developer products. But should be clearly separate, for discussing developer subjects only.

I can't speak for the JR developers but I'm not sure if they'd want the main JR forum to turn into a forum about developer's projects... that's why the developers have their own forums. I saw the announcement forum more as a promotional thing so that people can get informed about new mods / skins / ect. and go to the developers forum to discuss the mod / skin / ect more in-depth.

If you want paid developer there use to be a place where you could request a job... not sure where that's at since the new site came online.

JR4 had one forum and developers got a small section of it. JR5 made all developers equal with the core developers, they each have their own full forum.

Feels like what's being asked for is a way to see the other developers forums too.

Thinking that the solution might be a NEWEST POSTS section for all forums so that there is a central location to see all activity on the site without needing to visit the forums individually.

Current flow seams to be:
* user visits 'The Jamroom Network' 's profile forum.
* wants to know what is new on other profiles.

The logical solution seams to be "Go visit the other profiles". While the objection feels like it is "but i want a central location to see whats new."

I think people just gravitate to the main JR forum and don't think to go to the developers profile to see the developer's specific forum. I also see some people just posting in the product comments section.

Newest posts could work, but if it's for every new post then it might be cluttered with general posts from the JR forum - not saying that a general Newest Posts wouldn't be nice also. Maybe having a "new thread in developers forum by developers" would be a better solution for a listing, that way it'll just show new threads created by developers in their forums.

We've been discussing this offline, and want to come up with a solution that works for everyone. We know the forum is a central place for users to look, but we need to make sure questions for 3rd party modules/skins are directed to the proper place.

We'll come up with something that hopefully does a good job of exposing the latest updates, while at the same time ensuring we're not the first-line support for 3rd party modules/skins.
