i love jr
but kinda hate the search
it orders i think by created or updated im not even sure but it certainly isnt relvence

more then 80%
hell it might be more then 95% of the time the thing im actualy looking for unless theres under 3 results is buried on the last page to 3 pages of results

searching an exact title youd expect that item to be top of the list
u sure wouldnt expect it to be buried beneath hundreds of irrelevant results

i know you guys are working on alot all the time
and i love every update

but sometime in the semi near future please consider improving the search

"Relevance" is actually pretty tricky to do, so while it's possible, it's not likely to happen any time soon.

If you really don't like the JR search, just setup Google search for your domain and let it handle it.

Hope this helps!

thats what ive done in the past didnt like ningfs searcheither and yes i realize that relevence ius a tricky thing but a psuedo relevence would help as in ranking exact match above others
as an extremne exampole
searching for a user named jo

78 pages of results starting with bob johnson maryjo john jon jimmy jones
jo was on page 74

searching something very specific like ~love~
should only get 1 result
but it got 2 the 1st was titled Aug 2010 Cry Vtx 025
absolutely irelevent

i looked into self hosted full site indexing solutions but havent found 1 that wasnt hideous
the non self hosted were outragiosly expensive

googles excelent but typicaly at best indexes only 1/2 the content on your site

It can't be - that search "~love~" must appear in one of the search fields for the item that was returned. If you get an item returned that does NOT have the search term anywhere in any field for it, then MySQL is broken on your server.

your right it was in the description now that i looked at the details page

but if there were a way to rank title over text exact match over closest match over "also contains'

i realize its a lot to ask and just think it should be on the long term agenda to be looked into since internal searches are important

Yeah I've got a ticket open on it and we'll definitely check it out. Not sure how quickly anything can be done, but we'll do our best.

Thanks!

Just wanted to add that with the latest Search module (version 1.3.0) that it now features a "full text" index and will return results based on relevance (i.e. keyword density). It's a new feature you can enable from the Global Config.

Hope this helps!
