Migrate from Ning to Jamroom

As currently Ning platform is undergoing changes and the future of old ning 2.0 sites system may be questionable, as their will no longer allow media on their new 3.0 system, such as music or videos, maybe helping ning sites administrators with some ideas, hints, tutorials about how they can eventually migrate from Ning to Jamroom could have as an outcome new people interested in using this great platform, Jamroom. Also a tool / module / good tutorial which will make migration easier and fasten up the process will be greatly appreciated. I presume that most of users do not have great knowledge about programming but they are doing their best. But this is not enough to program / build such a tool but they will do fine using it.
Currently, ning still allow some exports of data, by JSON files, which include most of the data, limited to 10000 users, including music, videos, photos, forum discussions, events, blogs, pages, and also a small export of all members in csv format.
Any ideas / advises / tutorials / tools / modules or discussion regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated.
All the best!

A very timely post.
Jamroom user Ken Rich made us aware of the Ning situation and has been helping us build and test a Ning/Jamroom migration module which is pretty well complete and could be available within a couple of weeks.
Presumably you are a Ning user? If so, maybe you could help by exporting your Ning json files and media so that we can test the migration process further by building a Jamroom version of your Ning site?
Then, when we are ready to go with this, you could hopefully help Ken in spreading the Jamroom word amongst disgruntled Ning users?
Thanks
Pa

Yes Paul, we can build a course of action, I do have files downloaded an uploaded on server, standing by for migration. May we change mails for details and after come back here with the results?

Sure. If you already have a target server with a fresh install of the Jamroom Core and all the Ning json and media files uploaded into a folder, send me the JR and FTP logins and I'll give it a go.
Otherwise I can set something up for you to upload your Ning archive to.
How big is your Ning archive, including the media files?
Email me at paul [at] motagator [dot] net

OK Paul, so far I have only the files uploaded on one server in one folder at Arvixe but no fresh installation of Jamroom Core. I will contact you shortly on email!

OK - Put a Jamroom install alongside the Ning folder and email me the logins.
Just the free Jamroom Core and modules would be ok to start with.

I'm a Ning Creator who has already migrated (almost) so it can be done. Let me know if you need help.

The @musicianband Ning import/conversion to JR5 went well!!
Any other Ning users out there who potentially want their site converting to JR?

Cool... I'm just doing a few last minute tweaks over the week-end before I take down my maintenance screen.

I've got a former Ning Pro site, active in all categories, migrated and on the verge of going live in it's new Jamroom skin at http://indiegospel.net

I can already tell this is a thousand times better than the Ning equivalent, and new modules and updates and rolling out like clockwork. Kudos to Paul and the Jamroom team...

Thanks for the feedback Ken - we're excited that things are progressing well and are hoping we can help a lot of Ning users looking to take control over their own site and future.

Paul has worked really hard on this, so the positive feedback is really awesome. We're only getting started too - over the next couple months you'll see our Ning support and setup really take off - we've just created a new "Ning to Jamroom" profile setup exclusively for Ning users:

https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/forum

Feel free to post any feedback, suggestions, questions or what not and we can help.

Thanks!

Can I just add that I'm currently working on the docs and FAQs for the above page and they should be done in the next day or two, so then we can 'go public' with that new Jamroom site section, but feel free to start using the forum there now.

No worries.
I think https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom can 'go public' now so if anyone here can check it out and help spread the word, that would be great.

I'll hit the forum today, and since the three threads I've been frequenting are kind of "cluttered", I'll start a fresh one and link to the others (though I'll update those as well).

Thanks Ken.
If you can strongly suggest that they register here and use the forum at https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/forum to post any questions they have about N2JR it'll be a lot easier for me to respond to and keep track of potential migrants.

Cool... I'll do that... Gets a bit much dealing with all the messages doesn't it... I had a hundred emails a day coming at me before I started that stuff up - lol...
