This site could do with a community live wall

This site could do with a community live wall.Where members can communicate with each other and bounce ideas live 24/7 i think it would be a great help taking to like minded people

yes that every member can see and open up the whole network

I think its fine the way it is..been on this forum since 2007. Don't fix what's not broken and this forum isn't broken. I'm not sure what else can a chat room show you as everyone can already see any issue or solution on this platform..besides seeing each other face in video in the chatroom...I'm not looking forward to seeing Paul and Michael in cam..lol..I.prefer the gator on a bike and black and white sketch of M. But all jokes aside...a forum gives people time to think out and concentrate on wht need to be done to resolve a problem with a solution...chat rooms are for fun...and u can't track no serious conversation if you have to go back and follow up..well I believe u can't..just my 2 cents

You can't search a chatroom for a previously answered question.

It's called a chatroom for a reason - it's just chatter.

As for chatroom, try IRC. It has web development chatter going on all the time.

Freenode is the best. There's a room for exactly what your trying to do:
#jquery //for jquery questions
##php //for php questions
#web //for general web questions and conversation (its pretty informal)
#mysql //for mysql questions
#smarty //for smarty issues (not very busy)
....

and a ton of others.
