SlingTV

Cable cutters everywhere who purchased the SlingTV service woke up to a surprise this morning. SlingTV added NBC and a bunch of other channels. One of my biggest complaints about the service was the lack of main broadcast channels. Now with the addition of NBC, real change is here. Now I can get NBC, ABC, and FOX on the service. CBS is the only holdout.

I was paying $170 a month for cable TV. Of that $170, $27 was taxes. When I cancelled my cable my monthly charge dropped to $50 a month for internet.

My plan on SlingTV costs $35 a month. There a no taxes.

Yea, you know that's coming at some point. But if that happened, it would affect all internet sites. So, Amazon might have something to say to prevent that from happening. Good company / powerful company to have in your corner.

Amazon collects taxes on some things. I think the way it works is, if you're just the middle man you don't collect taxes. If you produce the product, you collect taxes. Like Apple.

Do they charge taxes for Prime, I don't have Prime? I do have Hulu and there aren't taxes with Hulu, just one monthly price.

I believe Amazon would be affected if the gov started taxing broadcast over internet.

Prime is a membership. I doubt there are taxes.

Prime is more than TV. Its music, shipping and other stuff.

I realize that. But tax implications if the gov started taxing broadcasts over internet would affect the Prime subscription rate along with other broadcast providers normal rates. Amazon, along with other services, would have a vested interest in preventing the gov from taxing such services IMO.

They had the same interest in blocking taxes but Apple and others collect them. Cable providers have deep pockets too.

Yea, I could see the cable providers complaining if they started to see people moving to internet based services in mass.

I think Apple collecting taxes has to do with California. I know in PA I have to report on my State taxes what I bought on the internet so that they can tax me.

I'll guess we'll have to see what happens. All that I know is that right now I'm saving a crap ton of money with SlingTV. Not sure what you have, but it's worth a try. I've got the Roku stick 2016 edition and it's great. SlingTV combined with Hulu and I haven't missed anything.

BTW I have prime, it's OK. I wouldn't drop NFL DirecTV for it.

I was thinking about prime though I never got it. Tried Netflix for awhile and ended up dropping it. I like TV more than movies. That's why SlingTV and Hulu worked out perfect for me. Also at night I just like to channel surf not watching anything in particular, SlingTV is prefect for doing that. They have a 7 day free trial if you want to give it a whirl.

I hear you with the football. As long as I get the local games, I'm a happy camper. My Dad does the package because he watches a bunch of teams play.

I only watch old TV. Otherwise, it's movies and sports.

I wish I had more time to watch TV... dam servers.

Is there actually anything good on TV? I cut cable in 2006 and have never missed it once - but maybe I don't know what I'm missing

Not current programming. I watch the stuff I watched as a kid. Colombo is a family favorite. Sanford & Son still makes me laugh.

Me personally, I never watch the major networks except for Sports. The best programming IMO is the science stuff and docs on the cable channels - I love How it's Made, Modern Marvels, and How it Works to name a few. I also like the old stuff like @nate. TV Land and a few other channels are good for that. I'm also addicted to food and home improvement shows. So, DIY, HGTV, Food Network, Cooking Network, are some of my favorites.

Personal favorites of all shows: Mr. Robot on USA and Rick and Morty on Adult Swim. @brian I highly suggest you watch Mr. Robot if you haven't. It's all about computer hacking. It's a crazy show. Rick and Morty - this is coming from a DIE HARD Simpsons fan who's been watching The Simpsons since day 1 - Rick and Morty is better than the Simpsons. It's the best animated TV show on television.

For $35 dollars a month to have access to 100 channels and can stream 3 streams anywhere... that's a deal. $35 is my price for the base package and 2 extra packages. Normal price is $20 ORANGE, $25 BLUE, or $40 for both + extras which are $5 a piece.
