The end of an era

I was in my mid 20's when Doom came out in the mid 1990's (might be showing my age here a bit but oh well) - I spent A LOT of nights playing Doom over the modem with a friend of mine. Looks like John Carmack has left ID software:

I haven't really been into any of their releases since Quake 2, but it's definitely the end of an era.

I can also recommend "Masters of Doom" - a book about Carmack and John Romero and how they founded ID software - it's not written that great but the story is cool.

We saw him in Dallas driving his Ferrari around. ID did some remarkable stuff! I loved Quake and Wolfenstein.
