I know that I can set categories for the Forum, which our members then must choose from when they post a discussion.

can that also be done for blogs? Can I pre-set the categories they can use?

Jo Deb-W,

I'm attaching a screenshot from our site... Ningja skin, Jamroom 6...
and we have that option.

Not sure it will help you, but maybe?

Not sure which skin you use, or if it's a feature with the skin, or with JamRoom 6?

As to your second question, whether you pre-set the categories so they are the same site-wide, I do not know. [My guess would be 'no', but if we can, that might be helpful for us to consider, too.]

I'll add another question... If we CAN use presets that every site blogger would see, would we still be able to include the option for individuals to add additional categories?

thanks Holly for your thoughts on this... I have the same options when I post (using Ningja on one site and setting up another site on Sage), but I really want presets that they all need to choose from (with "other" "new category" perhaps as an option). Maybe I should post that on suggestions forum if I hear that it's not currently possible.

Yes, you can pre-set the categories.

The forms your members are using when they add a blog post are the "blog create" and "blog update" forms.

The 'blog_category' is currently defaulting to a 'select_and_text' type.

Use the Form Designer.....

Docs: "Using the Form Designer"
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/jamroom-admin-handbook/1275/using-the-form-designer

.... to change the type to a 'select' type and in the FIELD OPTIONS, enter the options you want to give them.

Then they will only be able to select from what you've provided.

(Make sure you update both the blog/create AND blog/update forms.)
