I need some clarification on what we need to do to have 3 NING forums, successfully migrated to 1 Jamroom site.

I plan on continuing the use of the current 3 domain names for some time--they will map to a new JR forum.

In past threads you told me that each new NING group could become a category in the JR forum, that sounds good. A few more questions.

1. Do I need 3 separate JR profiles for each NING site I plan on migrating? You can see the tabs at ShaleForum.com for the sites, when they click on each tab, the migrated content from the old site will appear on the homepage.

2. Is the domain mapped to the profile page or can it be mapped directly to the forum of the profile? Who performs this domain mapping task; me or you?

Thx
Keith

Hi Keith
Firstly, to merge three Ning sites into one JR site is going to need a bit of custom work on the NingImport module so as to check for members with the same email address and not to duplicate them. This should be fairly straightforward to do.

So to be clear, are you planning on importing the total contents of the three sites into one, or just the global forum contents?

On import you can define which profile forum the Ning global forum is imported to, so I would suggest the creation of three 'forum profiles' for them. You can then use the CustomDomain module to map domains directly to those profiles. You can do this by configuration or the module, then setting a domain A record to point to your server IP in the control panel where the domain is registered.

Thanks Paul.

I would be moving the total contents into one JR site.

When importing users with the same email - can all Discussions (regardless of which website) be file under the User's email

Yes. If an existing email is encountered the import will assume its the same person and allocate all subsequent discussions (and items) to that person. Note that if the same person has signed up on two Ning sites with different emails, two Jamroom users will be created.
