How to Change Group Ownership

I asked this on another thread as a Part B question and @paul so kindly agreed to follow up for me. https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/my_posts/28334/where-are-my-groups-after-ning-import

This will likely be something other ex-Ningsters are looking for an answer about so I am posting it as a new thread.

I am looking for a way as admin to change the owners of the groups. This was one of the main problems at Ning they never address. Group members start a group and then would leave or disappear and we would never be able to change their name/ownership.

I would prefer to name myself group OWNER of all groups, and then can assign moderators as needed.

@strumelia I am tagging you in case you wish to copy your comments over to this thread :)

@Paul, another reason I am looking to do this (just so you know the meaning of the madness) is that I am now going to have groups be part of a premium membership. When I set up my quotas to turn off regular member's access to groups, I lose over 50% of my groups. After I set myself as owner, I can set those regular memberships back to not having access to groups.

* I am happy to pay someone to do this for me like you did for @strumelia
* I want groups assigned to my "Community" profile like forums, not actually my own personal profile.

My comment on this from another thread:
Yes the business of never being able to change the 'owner/creator' of a Group in Ning has been a big PITA for years. And maybe you recall Paul- when you imported my Ning archive, i was missing about 8 Groups that stayed behind in my archive because the member who created them long ago had left my ning site and no longer had a profile...but their content was left behind, including their active Groups. Thus, you had to go in manually and somehow change those groups in my archive to be owned/created by me instead, and then you re-imported them and they fell under my profile and showed up nicely then. We will have to do this again when i do my 'go live' import soon. This same thing will occur with others who come from ning.
It would be GREAT if in JR going into the future we had the ability to change which profile 'owns' a group. It's incredibly problematic when a member creates a group that becomes active and popular...and then just leaves. For years now I have had my Ning network set up so that only I can create groups, partly because of that. Those few groups you had to transfer were about 5 years old, from before I had that setting in place.

This ought to be straightforward to add in - maybe an owner field in the 'Modify Datastore Item' form.
Let me look into it.
Thanks

Paul changed the ownership on a couple groups for me....but only a few "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS?' :) I did....and it actually did present some unforeseen problems for me that took some time to fix/delete

I cannot remember exactly what they were now....but it was tough at the time

@derrickhand300 thanks for the heads up, but yeah, I had been group owner at Ning for some time on all new Groups. I am sure you are right in that there is always fallout. Appreciate your tip.
