ive heard conflicting info on the proper way to update
originaly i would
clone the updated version upload my images my custiom templates my custom css thendo a compare on all the templates i edited in the template editor then mark acrtive

i was told then that theres no reason to do that, instead just do a compare on the templates to thenew version
however
the php files dont update that way the version number doesnt update etc

so i tried going back to my old way cloning to a new skin but it wont accept the uploaded images it keeps saying they have errors

so what is the proper way to update a skin and ensure all files are updated corectly

edit i now realize the issues with all custom skin images that were uploaded in the past as well as ones im trying to upload now
none are working corecttly
i have to assule a permission was changed on a folder

spinners are working here. Check your System Check to see that imagemagick is installed
ACP -> SYSTEM CORE -> TOOLS -> SYSTEM CHECK

Its image magic that deals with moving gif conversion. But just uploading them they shouldn't need converting I don't think.

use the url:
http://your-site.com/image/img/module/jrCore/loading.gif

To check if the image is being replaced. That url runs through the image replacement system so if you've replaced jrCore's loading.gif you will see what it outputs at that url.

Same for other modules, just put their name and the name of the original image in to see the replacement.

As for 'proper' there isn't one way to do it. If your using an IDE and adjusting files via FTP, then the compare system in your IDE will be how you move changes into your new templates.

If your using the TEMPLATE editors, then I would compare the old version of the file with the new version of the file to understand what changed. THEN compare the new version of the file to your customized version of the file and selectively bring in the changes you want to keep.

ok question
we did perform a server reboot cause 1 of the external drives (to be replaced tonight) was giving an io error
when you upload images to replace skin images are they saved in a diferent place then the regular media and a diferent place then the upload extra images on the same form
cause every skin now shows them broken even though they were uploaded months ago

edit im convinced it must be from the core update
or something as i can access the images by ftp and they are all the same permissions the ones that work and the ones that dont

Didn't you say previously that you had done something weird with symlinking your images to another directory? Have you checked this on a site which doesn't have that customisation?

i changed that from symlinking to just mounting the drive as data/media
but that was the 1stthing i checked by trying to upload othermedia
i just tested on a site thats not usingthat media drive
and as soon as i updated the core i had the same issues

try it on yours update the core and see if you dont have the same issues

I believe the image was removed and the image name is linked to a lightbox image, but I'm seeing an issue with that. I'll get a ticket open.
