Learning curve is killing me- Was in cpanel an hour ago removeing access from all the freelancers that have been working in the past on the site
Well short story- I erased a ftp user account for 1 of the freelancers and it erased my entire public.html folder..
Trying to restore from a 20 hr old back up on the server
How is your day going?

yeah fingers crossed...I had to buy another linode ($80) just to have space to restore- they are walking me through it
I still dont understand exactly what i did wrong- I thought I was just removing that users access
it was like freelancername@ftp.mysite.com and it erased everything...cant wait to get moved to your server system
I worked till 5 am this morning on the site making major changes and fixes- because the backup is 20 hours ago all thats lost... :(

I wish there was a warning flag in cpanel so that when you click to delete that ftp account it would say something like "WARNING-DUDE YOU ARE ABOUT TO TOTAL OUT YOUR WEBSITE!"

I'll be leaving most of the managing up to the JR Team, hopefully. I didn't sign up to manage servers! ;D
I'll use Filezilla to upload/download/delete stuff when needed.

my host advertises "impressive support" and they come through with that claim but still i have to jump in and tweak things myself pretty much daily so far
there will be a point at wich it shouldnt need alot of attention but for now it does

im also installing a search engine server ive tried a couple diferent options i think i found the 1 i am going to go with ..but its the most technically advanced option (self hosted 0open source) anything that offered 10% what this offeres costed 50 grand a year

so this is something i need to access the root to install '

and i dont think installing any special modules or extentions let alone a search engine is an option on a jamroom only server

This is completely wrong.

Cpanel is only one option from many. Agreed, it is useful, and I'm glad that it's making your life easier whilst learning from it. But there are many options to choose from and none of them involve the command line (apart from the command line that is).

well if you mean like alternate options like plesk whm etc but in the absence of any form of control panel access isnt ssh command line the only option
i could be wrong

ok thats what i thought i guess i was using cpanel as a generic not brand name term

so we were both right just you were more technically right

ive used multiple options im just starting to get more comfortable with command line when the cpannel (or plesk or whatever other options) just wont do what ya need it to do
