This is not something that's supported in Ning and, conceptually, it's something I am struggling with trying to understand how, why, and where it's useful.

If it's confusing to me, it's going to be confusing to members - especially ones that are less technically minded.

TIA,

This has various subjects of explanations:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/getting-started

and within it you will find one about the profiles/users/quotas concept:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/getting-started/2167/concepts-the-admin-user-needs-to-know

My take is this:
Yes i too get confused, but I must every day remind myself that- I am not building a new Ning site.
There is a learning curve for us that takes some time, but each day you learn a little here, a little there. We can now build our new sites the way we want them to be, so by the time you finish creating your site, you can make it less confusing to your members in many ways. Some of those ways will involve you deciding which of the almost limitless abilities and features you want to give your members to do or play with. If you wish, you can make a relatively simple site that will not be confusing to your members...I guess that's what i'm trying to say.
Yes I find it confusing as a non coder myself. I keep learning little by little on my own...been at it almost 3 months now. I keep reminding myslef how clueless I was when I built my ning site 6 yrs ago...and thought I'd never figure it all out...but I did somehow.
Now I'm having to learn a whole new system...oh well, times change and I'm not ready for the nursing home just yet.

Multiple profiles per user in Jamroom is actually pretty easy. Make sure their in a Jamroom Quota that has the "Power User" featured enabled (ACP -> User Accounts -> Quota Config -> Power User Enabled). You can set how many "extra" profiles can be created, and what quota those profiles can be created in.

When the user is logged in and viewing their profile they will see a + in their profile where they can then create additional profiles.

Another use might be a band profile having a user account for each of the band members so that they can all update the band profile.
Or in Brian's example above, a 'power user' might be an employee of an agency tasked with adding all their client profiles to the site.

An imperfect analogy ... but building on the band example above I am thinking about a Facebook business page where I can add existing profiles as page admins.

Here the end result is the same but the process is different.

To do that, as admin, just go to the profile page, Update Profile (gear wheel icon), Account Tab, then make them a 'Profile Admin'.

If I understand properly. I am not "transferring" a profile from one account to another, I am giving one profile the ability to let another profile contribute to and edit their profile.

I am not attempting to re-create my Ning site - that makes little sense given the profile-centric focus of Jamroom as opposed to the content-centric focus of Ning.

Rather, in my community I don't have a lot of collections of members that are affiliated in some way other than through affinity groups. I don't have things like "bands" which have members, each of which logically contribute to a single profile. So, I am struggling with what new kinds of engagement possibilities would arise by enabling that capability (what, from my financial consulting days we would call entitlements - what services a user, or user group, is entitled to access/retrieve).

I am thinking of creating a bunch of quotas that members can self-assign themselves to. I think I have to use FoxyCart to create quotas that are free to do this. If I read things correctly, I can use Mailgun to then send email to specific quotas. That capability is something I've wanted in Ning since the very beginning.

Yes, either to a specific profile (band members, say) or to all profiles (Profile Admin).

No, you as Admin can create free quotas. You would only need FoxyCart if had any paid for quotas that users could subscribe to.

With the jrNewsletter module you can target email newsletters/messages to specific quotas. This can be done with Jamroom's own email system, or via Mailgun using the free jrMailgun module.

Just a note that you don't have to use FoxyCart for this - as long as the Quota allows signups, the user will be able to change their profile to a different quota (ones that allow signup) in their Profile Settings. As the admin you can control this in the user profiles Global Config (Make sure the Allow Quota Changes option is checked).

Hope this helps!

Yes, thank you very much for the clarification.

I had to think about this in more detail in order to tackle the question about which quotas a person looking to create a new account would be shown.
