Just like I do with YouTube videos? Why do I need to register to get a Client ID and Secret?

BTW, Youtube needs a mid-cap "T" - YouTube.

The YouTube API does not require an API key to access - Vimeo's does, thus you need the Client ID and Secret. They are free with a Vimeo account.

Hope this helps!

The API key is also required when searching. Vimeo, SoundCloud and Flickr require this. YouTube are more liberal with their data !

Really?

https://developer.vimeo.com/player/embedding

I don't want to search or anything and don't want to create an app which appears to be the only way to get a clientID and secret.

The Jamroom Media URL Scanner module uses the Vimeo API to get information about the video being embedded so it can show the title of the video which you can't get just by simply embedding it.

Brian -

Okay, I can see where that's useful. Searching the documentation does not help me to know how to fill out the following fields on the Vimeo side:

App Name:
App Description (does this get displayed to members?):
App URL:

I don't need a logo URL or callback URL - right?

Honestly I think you can enter anything you want there - as far as I know Vimeo is now "validating" the App URL, although it would not hurt to just use your site URL there.

As for logo I've never filled those in and it all works, so you should be able to leave those empty.

Hope this helps!

Clay - See my response to your support ticket I've just posted. I actually created a vimeo account for you and set up the module with the codes so that I could do the import, so its all done.

Awesome Paul - and in case you haven't seen Vimeo in the Media Scanner - here's what it looks like:
