module search only seems to work in forrums

the module search only seems to work remotely correwctly in the forums
when searching the gallery werther my custom 1 or default for a titloke u see on screen it returns the exact same page with every image/song/blog/etc and says search results for 'whatever search term' but shows every item in the moduler
on the custom pages it takes it a step further and if you have 3 modukles like featured blogs blogs rranked by rating and newest blogs all with the search fields all 3 say search results for.. but show the unmodified results and... worse of all 1/2 the time say search results for search


assumming it was an issue with my custom pages i was wasting time trying to figure out a better way to impliment the search.. but then saw the same results (minus the search by search) on the default modules pages

only in the forums did i get anything but what id already seen before searching and thats the only 1 that uses the magnifying glass click to search instead of inline search feild

I don't see any issues on my site or the demos:

search for something and it works, so something is setup wrong on your site or is configured wrong - double check your settings.

very odd
i know in the photo module..my custom version im using the search code given to me by...ithink micheal? or was it you i cant remember
but on the default gallery page i havent changed a thing

ill dig around see what i can find

side note i tried adding a 3rd party search last night that really looked awesome but adding it all the buttons stopped working
(had to add the js by ftp as it said syntax error in the template editor)

but even after removing the script i had to switch back to elastic via mysql multiple times till i was able to remove the form tag from the template and get the buttons working again

ok its working within gallery but heres the issue

we need a lil more advanced search options with the site builder

we need a function like instead of we need something that can specify the module or modules to search like

so the module search can specify the module ..or multiple modules you want searched and use wildcards for form fields .... or "like" fields= like text title description so it includes anything thats simular within each module being searched


just as a test i am going to try specifying the module to search and see if it works

i dont think multiple modules will in seemless lists
ctualy kinda remember paul offering a solution and i was too tired to try it so ill look for that too

SE, can you restate again which modules do not have working search functions for you? I can test them on my site and report back here if you make it clearer instead of going into other details or other wants. Thanks!

well although several didnt seem to work they now seem to just not as well as id wish
the problem is that the module search cant search modules unless its on the modules index page it6self..or the index-item-list i think it was
but it cannot search modules in custom pages

im looking into a really awesome custom 3rd party search option but was having a hell of alot of trouble getting it to work

they do offer custom instalation support so im hoping to hear from them tomorow and get a working search thats very customized and powerful

in fact it lets you rearange entries for popular searches add entries remove the ones u dont want being found by those terms etc etc ... if i can get the damn thing to work i'll show u and it will be amazing

Have you tried google custom search? It can be very effective in the right circumstances.

Ah, ok so the search is not 'broken'- it's more that the search isn't working the way you'd like it to. Maybe edit the thread title then, to better reflect that?

well it was acting broken i looked into google custom search theres the full site search engine the minumum package was like 250,000 querries a month and cost a rediculouse ammount ive always used the monitized search wich was awesome (pre- panda when google screwed everything up) but that only indexed about 50% of the site and now its less

i looked into 1 last night that didnt work it had a 50 page limit free version a 50,000 page limit pro version at 19 a month then the next step up was 150 a month.. didnt say the limit on that and the next step up was 1,100 a month again didnt say the limit


i found a feee extremely powerful 1 but its also extremely complex and confusing geared towards the needs of mega corporations ... with it staffs just dedicated to the search function

it may still be an option im waiting to talk to them tomorow
