completed Suggestion for the Timeline on Main Page

I noticed something minor that could be improved:

If a member posts something not good- say for example a snarky commment on somebody else's profile comment wall....
Well it shows up on the site's Main page Timeline?activity feed, naturally.
Then the admin (me) or maybe even the original poster goes and deletes that snarky remark from the member's profile page. The result is that it will not disappear from the main page TimelineActivity Feed. It remains there with its readable excerpt to be seen in all its glory even after having been deleted from where it had been posted. (yes, i cleared cache etc)

It would be great if we Admins had the ability to delete entries directly from our site's Main Page Timeline/Activity Feed...in case something appears that is inappropriate or simply needs to be removed from general view. We have this ability on Ning.

Can the JR team add this ability for us? If so, that'd be awesome!

This can already be done. Go to the action's detail page and there's a delete button there.

No. You should be able to get to an action detail page where you can comment on an action but it doesn't seem to be worked ng in Ningja. It's late here now. I'll look into it in the morning.

Have just looked at this again and as Admin, when you hover over the timeline action, an option to delete it pops up.
Are you not seeing this?

i am not seeing it
investigating code to see if my css is interfering but im not seeing it im assumming it should be in the form of a lil trash can icon appearing on hover or a lil x wait a sec just realized i most likely hovered over my own activity and it might not apear on your own..
nope nothing on others actions either

i agree its important on ning we sometimes get the 'ghana dating scam" type who posts 100 profile comments "hi i saw your profile and became interested in you" things
banning them will delete the comments..and the activity feed references... eventualy but can take 5-25 minutes and there were times it just didnt delete them so id have to click the plus signs to remove each from the activity

there were also times someone butthurt over getting good advice when they only wanted to hear the bad things they were doing were ok and theyd post a nasty status update before leaving just to cause trouble so id often delete those (and in cases when they were real nasty help them leave a lil quicker)

Are you using a 'Site Built' timeline? I've just tried that and yes, the trash can icon doesn't show. On the 'straight' Ningja skin, it does.
Maybe Michael can comment on this?

I get no trash can nor any other option upon hovering over a post in my main page Timeline/Activity feed. That's why i started this thread.
Using Ningja skin. I don't know what a 'site built timeline' is.

Also, in my main page Timeline feed: although I can click on member names and get taken to their profile pages, if the timeline item is that they posted a comment or post someplace on the site, I cannot click on it to get to go see their comment or post. My cursor turns into a pointing hand while hovering, but it won't click me to anywhere.
see attached.

Do you see the trash icon if you refresh your browser after making a post that you want to delete?

What I mean is, when you are looking for the trash icon and it doesn't appear, try refreshing your browser using the "reload" button. Then try hovering again. Does it appear then?

Ultrajam, i did that, noticed this a couple weeks ago actually. Hard refresh does not help.
Just now I also tested it on my Mac laptop with Safari- same thing as what I experience on my windows desktop with Firefox. Looks and acts like in my above attached screenshot.

I have never seen it there. It was one of those things I noticed a while back (a week maybe? two weeks?) but put it on the back burner until now.
But for all I know it might have been there 3 weeks ago and then disappeared, or may have never been there for me. But I think it was about 2 weeks ago that I actually noticed I could not delete things from the Timeline, and that there were no links that would bring someone to the comments or posts shown in the timeline feed.

There isn't a way to delete timeline entries from the front/index page of your site. You must be on your profiles index/timeline page to delete timeline entries.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks Douglas!
But can you clarify please?: other people seem to be talking about seeing a trashcan icon when they hover over.... but...is it that NONE of us can use a trash to delete from our main page timeline entries to delete any member's item? OR, is this lack of trash can only on MY site for some reason? Does one not get the trash can if using Ningja skin?

I'm not sure what Paul meant when he said: "No. You should be able to get to an action detail page where you can comment on an action but it doesn't seem to be worked ng in Ningja. It's late here now. I'll look into it in the morning. "

I did manage to successfully delete a main page timeline comment by going to: ActivityTimeline module-->Tools-->DatastoreBrowser ....so is that not a good way to do it? That's what Paul said "no" to...but I'm not understanding the best way, or if it's normal for me not to see a hover trashcan on the main page.
Can someone please help me understand? Sorry to seem dense, I guess I need it spelled out so I 'get' it.

For now that is correct, but it helps to understand why. Jamroom is "profile centered", which means that pretty much everything on the site belongs to a profile (i.e. songs, images, etc.). When you are on the "main" site pages, you're not on a profile and the items on the page usually consist of many different items from many different profiles. The core does not check every single item individually (by default) to see if the viewing user has "permission" to delete it (or modify it), which is why the delete does NOT appear on the main timeline.

So to delete it, you can just click on it and THEN once you are on the user's profile you can delete it.

You can actually override this with a custom action list template, but I'm going to guess you're not going to be spending all day deleting action entries (if you do find yourself doing that then you need to just ban the user that is causing you grief) and so it's probably not a big deal to occasionally delete one by viewing the user's timeline.

Hope this helps!

Yes this helps me understand! :)
Now I don't have to wonder whether others have the trash can and I don't. And since I have a way to go in someplace and delete an item from the back end, that's what i can do on the rare occasion that I need to delete something. (I tried deleting it from the profile as you suggested, but oddly that did not remove it from the main page timeline, but my other way {through the activitytimeline module databrowser} did just that)
Thanks! I'm marking this thread resolved. :)
