on the subject of search i got the search working right on my blogs but not on my photos and im using the code given to me..i think by brian
i try typing in a word in 1 of the title fields or a name in a gallery field and it sdays search results for but i get the exact same list there was there
ontop of that 1/2 the time it says search results for search not the term i used and the url i just noticed looks weird

http://www.greentechnologyforums.com/photos//ss=search

//? would that even work?
going to do some testing

ok tested typed in the name lauryn in the url //ss=lauryn the search said search results for lauryn but still showed all pics tried 1 / same results tried no / and ? like photos?ss=lauryn same results even tried /?ss= just to be thourough

template for the top 1 has this code
<a name="featgal" id="featgal"></a>
<div class="item photosearch">
	{jrSearch_module_form fields="gallery_title,gallery_image_title,gallery_caption,gallery_description,gallery_image_name"}

</div>
<div class="item center" style="margin: 10px;padding-bottom: 10px;">
    <div id="featuredgalleries">
        {jrCore_include template="newest_featured_galleries.tpl"}
    </div>
</div>

The Seamless module does a mix listing of any module(s) you want to mix together, have you checked that out?

when using seemless i just cant figure out how to mix the search to search all modules fior all feilds ahd how to rank them by multiple mixed ratings
and didnt see anuything on that link that helped

I see what your saying, I've not tried using a search with the seamless module, I'll have to let Paul or Brian jump in on this one as I'm not sure if a search or rating is possible with this module.

I too am going to need to combine my 3 different video sources into one main video area. Also my two music sources (uploaded, and soundcloud) into ONE music listing area. It's too werid to go to a person's profile, click on their 'videos' tab, see that there's nothing there....and then realize all their videos are to be found within their youtube tab. Also, the main navigation top strip should bring you to the one video area...not take you first to uploaded videos (of which there are very few on my site). I know there's a drop down menu for videos, but most folks will just simply click right on the main "videos" tab and then wonder why they don't see the fifty youtube vids they have on the site.

I will look into the seamless module when I have a little time, but thinking that the default setup is, well, not ideal at all. Now I'll need to learn how to use the seamless module to correct a basic layout that will be confusing unless changed. Just trying to describe things I feel could be better laid out to begin with, so legions of Ning folks won't be going "whaaaaaa?" ;)

i was just wondering if i finaly found something that just might not be doable.. thats ok

wait give me a sec,..'

i wont get the code right but maybe the logic
for each item,
if jrVideo video_highest_average_overall_rating=$item.video_highest_overall_rating
eseif jrYoutube...etc
esif.. jrVimeo

the search im not so sure about i think theremaybe a way to figure out the rating order

for as short a time as ive been famaliarizing myself with this code im getting better and better at figuring it out it just takes alot longer then it should haha...

You can use something like search="*_title LIKE %xxx%" in a jrSeamless call (where 'xxx' = your search string) so maybe that would help in searching multi-modules. That command effectively means "search all the specified module items and return any that have 'xxx' in their title".

Well hey you 'brains', send me a postcard if/when you get it all figured out, 'cause this is way over my head at the moment. l.o.l.

But if not my music audio clips, I'll eventually need to have at least all my site VIDEOS in one central place (uploaded, vimeo, youtube) and searchable with ONE video search box, for names/titles/descriptions. And I think most other ning owners will not want their videos split into three locations and tabs.

When one clicks on "Videos"...whether on the main site page top nav link, or when on a member's profile page, it'd be ideal to see all 3 types of videos on the same page location. 3 columns would be ok, but frankly all mixed in would be fine with me too. When a member wants to look for say, a video on jazz fingerpicked dulcimer on my site, they really don't give a hoot whether it's uploaded, vimeo, or YT...they just want to FIND it in their search and WATCH it.

well i think your rating idea will work about to try that but i think you misunderstood what i need here
not a way to list all items with xxx in the title
but a way to use the module search function to search multiple modules with multiple simular feilds

{jrSearch_module_form fields="blog_title,blog_text"}
instead ofr that wich only works if its directly in the module itself not on a custom page created listing featured blogs highhest rated blogs and newest blogs
and especialy not in a seemless page with 3 modules

with the side builders flexibility a new searchy options needed

{jrSearch_module_form module="jrVideo,jrVimeo,jrYoutube" fields="*_title,*_text,*_description"}

this way jr module search searches all 3 modules for the feilds simular to video_title or youtube_title or _vimeo _title etc

and resturns the results on that page

this way when we build our page with 3 lists from 1 module or 3 lists from 3 modules combined we can simply insert a row above the rest with our search code and it searches all and returns the results in that row above our lists

If you have fields which aren't being searched, you can add those fields to the search by registering the module feature.

like this from jrDocs:
    // We have fields that can be searched
    jrCore_register_module_feature('jrSearch', 'search_fields', 'jrDocs', 'jrDocs_get_search_items', 53);

Check out the jrDocs_get_search_items function to see how that works. (there will be similar in other modules in case you don't have access to jrDocs).

i dont but thanks ..funny that you found my copy and paste tip confusing but this makes sence to you haha

but i get the general idea now these registrations they need to be added to the .. youtube video vimeo modules .. then instead you use the non module search code searching by those registered fields?

am i grasping that correctly?

You can create a search form in your 'seamless' template -
{jrSearch_module_form module="jrVideo,jrVimeo,jrYoutube"}
Any extra fields that need to be searched you would then be set up in the search module's global config.

lil problem
seemless without a template specified outputs

Newest Videos

{jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing {jrSeamless_parse_template} required parameter "item" is missing

specifying item_list does nothing
trying to create my own out of what i saw in jrvideo item_list theres the assign module ujrvideo murl

so..whats the solution a ky_videos.tpl
with a if module= jrvideo item=jr video template=item_list
i know thats not right
or foreach item
if module = template = my custom template for that module item

i really thought the seemless should have worked without specifying a custom template and it would used the defaults
