ok discovered the nmodule search only works properly on the "built in' module pages like gallery not on my custom one photos
there is no 'blogs' in the menu wich there should be i made my own blogs page but the search wont work

so...... i have a feature request
on everry module
forums
blogs
gallery
music
etc
have 3 tabs or links
newest
featured
highest rated
then i can do away with my custom pages

and add blogs to the menu

That would make all the templates more complicated, so I don't think it is something we are going to add.

It's very easy to add the module search where ever you want however - i.e.

{jrSearch_module_form fields="blog_title,blog_text"}

Put it in your Blog index template. You can see it working here:

http://demo.jamroom.net/jrNingja/blog

You can adjust the search fields to suit your needs.

Hope this helps!

Yep that's a good one that we all love. It really gets members' participation up, especially new members who are welcomed in by others in their profile page comment area. They often don't know how to respond back to those who left a nice comment on their page, they are just learning how to use the site. A "comment back" link works wonders. But SE you might want to post that suggestion as a new separate thread since it's a different subject altogether than your thread title.

Brian:
See screenshot from my ning profile page comment wall. It takes me directly to a text box on their profile paghe comment wall so I can just start tyoing a response on their page instead of on my own. Handy because most members set their settings to get notified if anyone leaves a new comment on their comment wall. But you can't get notified about comments left on other people's walls.

sure
heres a screenshot from my ning profile when someone comments on your profile it has a commentback that when clicked takes you to the comment form on the person who left the comments profile

u see it also has a view thread.. that alows you to see yoir entire conversation between the 2 of you isolated from the rest
thats a nice feature but not essential
the comment back however is highly important otherwise they reply to you on thier profile not yours 9 times out of 10
even with it they stil;l often do till they learn to use the comment backl

Yes well we all need different layouts, I might find that side column very useful on my site, not sure, might not want it either- it'll be great to have the new Site Builder so we can try out the layouts easily!

You have a million patterned backgrounds everywhere- very pretty but I get vertigo looking at your site. You might want to put a warning for epileptics on your main page- just don't make it a flashing popup... lololol just TEASING you, man. ;)

Since Jamroom's comments already include a link to the commentor's profile if you click on their name, it sounds like all that is needed is just some text that says "comment back" pointing to the same URL.

Thanks!

Yes, but it needs to be rather obvious and prominent at the bottom of the comment. Is it also possible to make it click right to the other person's comment wall, rather than simply to their profile page?
Hard to believe, but so many of my thousands of members are seniors and they really don't notice things unless its right in their face. These people would just 'comment back' on their own comment wall rather than even think of clicking on that person's hotlinked name higher up to go tho THEIR comment wall. This mixup would happen literally 50% of the time if we dont' have a very obvious COMMENT BACK link right underneath each comment. Thanks!

yes agree with strum add an anchor at the comment box..the text editor and simply copy that url to the bottom of the comment change the text to comment back instead of profile name and add the anchor to the url so it takes u to the text editor

sure i could addit to my template in 10 seconds flat but it is something that every ning users going to want and the fact that ning 3.0 still doesnt have that simple lil thing has been the subject of never enbding complaints for over a year now

we sure do ask alot of these guyys and i was always the 1 on ning telling ppl how impracticcle it was to expect ning to spend a whole lot of efford designing somrewthing that only 5 out of 100,0000 sites would use
but i think we hhave kept all of our requests to the basics that pretty much all ning users would want and not started demanding special case things like were rampant on ning

all in all though im loving the way its shaping up

ive begin to realize though that some of the things i thought werent really done were just problems with the beta site builder wich now that im using it i dont want to give up using it till its just right

Yep I'm trying to stay focused on BASIC things that the great majority of Ning users use on a daily basis, expect and count on... not special needs. People with complex sites can code unique stuff over time. But the basic organization and layout of features, and the social communication and navigational 'wiring' should make sense to ning-ers out of the box. My own network is not really complex at all...I've kept it very simple on purpose only 'cause that's what my members like. So my site works pretty well as a 'base template' i think. Nothing fancy or complicated.

Hmm sounds like the Site Builder still needs work if it causes one to see their site through a wacked lens...?

Possible to put rephrase that for me into an actionable frame so I can make sure whatever is causing the 'wacked lens' is sorted.

If you'd drop it here that would be great:

Cheers.

Michael, if you read the 2nd half of this thread:
https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/forum/new_posts/19686/the-couple-things-i-need-from-your-end-to-be-ready-to-move#last

and where SE says today: "ive begin to realize though that some of the things i thought werent really done were just problems with the beta site builder wich now that im using it i dont want to give up using it till its just right "
"see i see yours diferently its probably because i have site designer enabled that even on my default uncustomized i dont see discussions or pages whatsowever
i think my sidebar issue andthe fact i see no diuscussions and no pages is the sitrebuilder i will try to disablee it now . "

We were comparing screen shots of our Gropup pages, and SE was saying that he sees his Group pages differently and they were looking messed up because he was looking at them while using Site Builder. That's why I refer to a whacked lens. I have not tried site builder but I apparently wasn't seeing some of the problems SE was in his group pages- sidebars, discussions not appearing...? SE has not confirmed whether things appear improved to him now with him turning off SB... still waiting to hear about that. He simply said that he thinks some of his issues were due to his having SB on...? He's the one to clarify.

Site builder starts with nothing on a page. It is possible to export a created page and import created pages.

There is a file that recreates in widgets on the sitebuilder system the existing structure of the standard Ningja skin as it was last week or so. If there are newer things that that, then they will need to be created as widgets and exported. The 2 layout systems are separate from each other.

That's probably where the discrepancy of front page items comes from.

Thanks.

well im not sure
what were talking about iss on the groups pages
they see no sidebar..i do
they see pages and discussions

we had other suggestions gor the groups pages to improve it but on the groups page i see no discussions no pages
now i know i can create my own custimized groups listing maybe wwith categories or whatever but i cant seem to edit the group page itself
..not with sitebuilder
and those parts just arent seen in the current ninja skin with sitebuilder enabled

wich i knows still beta and not ready just letting you know that i cant see those items in group
even with the uncustomized release
im sure if i disable sitebuilder i can
but i told u i wanyted to test the hell out of it and theres a easy to see issue
