Latest Ning Import and NingJa skin updates

I've just pushed out new releases of a bunch of modules that should be really helpful to early ning "migrationauts" :)

1) The Ning Import module has been "revamped" to be faster and make it easy to re-run an import for specific items. This is really helpful since we just came out with the new Groups setup, this now will allow you to just re-import your groups, discussions, etc. without having to re-import your entire archive. It will also tell you now which modules are not active or installed, and what items can't be imported because of that.

2) Lots of updates to the NingJa skin to (hopefully) get us closer to what a Ning user would like. The profile index has been redone to show different areas (discussions, updates, audio, video, images, etc.). Note that the "timeline" section may be empty until your users actually start interacting with the site, at which time you'll see entries load into that section. Lots of small tweaks as well trying to spiff things up and get the colors and layout consistent.

3) Small updates to Group modules to fix reported bugs and issues.

Hopefully the changes to the Importer are "intuitive" and should be easy to use, but if you have any questions on any of this please let us know and we can help.

Thanks everyone!

Brian, this is terrific! you're the best!

Question on my specific situation: I held off on updating to the two 'new' Groups modules from a week ago or so, and thus I did not follow the instructions you laid out for updating them and deleting the 'old' group modules.
Should I do all that now BEFORE I update what you released today? OR should I bypass that and simply go directly to updating what you released today and then delete my original group modules that i never updated last week? (ugh, this question is clear as mud, sorry...)

No problem. It's actually easier now if you're OK re-importing your groups, discussions and pages. Just do this:

- go into the marketplace and update everything that is available to be updated

- go into the ACP -> Ning Support - Ning Import module.

- Click on the "Global Config" tab. make sure you have entered the Profile ID you want your SYSTEM FORUM to be located on in the "Site Forum Profile ID" config option (this is new). Most likely you want it on YOUR profile, which is probably "1". You can do ACP -> Users -> Profile Browser to browse the ID's available on your system. Save your changes.

- click on the "Import Ning Archive" Tab.

Make sure all the select options say "Do Nothing" EXCEPT the following:

- Profile Forum
- Group Support
- Group Discussions
- Group Pages
- Page Creator

Set all of those to 'Delete and Create (all items re-created)'

- press the "Import Selected Items" button.

When complete, all the Groups, Discussions, Pages and Forum entries should be setup.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Am I supposed to delete any older modules once I have first installed the still pending (owned from last week but still not installed yet) "Profile Group Discussions" and Profile Group Pages". Shoudl I do this all before I go to make today's updates you just posted?

I guess I'm trying to say is I have NOT yet done what you outlined here:
https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/forum/new_posts/16739/upgrading-from-existing-ning-pages-and-discussions-modules
-Do I need to do all that BEFORE proceeding to do today's updates and re-importing?

Just do Step 2.

Make sure the OLD "Ning Discuss" and "Ning Pages" modules are removed. When complete there should only be 2 modules in the "Ning Support" category in the ACP:

Ning Import
Ning Notes

and 3 modules in the "Profile Groups" category:

Group Discussions
Group Pages
Group Support

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

But...
I'm supposed to do this:
===============
2) Go into the ACP and go to the “info” tab for each of these modules make sure the Module URL and Module Category are set to the following:
- for Group Support:
- module url: group
- module category: profile groups

- for Group Pages:
- module url: group_pages
- module category: profile groups

- for Group Discussions:
- module url: group_discuss
- module category: profile groups

Make sure the module is ACTIVE and save.

===================

How can I "make sure the module is active" without even installing them,as in step 1?:
===================
1) First, make sure all 3 of the new modules are installed or updated from your Marketplace (Group Support, Group Pages and Group Discussions)
====================

Brian, I dont seem to even have a module called "Group Support". Am I supposed to?

I am now totally confused as to how to get up to speed on today's updates while attending to the update instructions I have not done from last week.
The re-importing of archive folders shouldnt be a problem once I get to that point, but can you please go in and see if I'm MISSING some module like "Group Support", and are you able to do that stuff from "step 2" and DELETE the modules I no longer need for this update? Sorry, but I'm just not understanding the sequence of what I need to do from last week to today. :(

P.S. if you are able to do this, feel free to delete all my confusing posts here so others won't get confused by my questions.

Yes. Go into the ACP -> Marketplace and install:

Profile Groups
Profile Group Discussions
Profile Group Pages

Let me know if you get those installed. If you dis NOT have them installed, then you can skip step 2. That means you can IGNORE all the instructions I had in that other post.

Hope this helps!

Oy.

I DO have Profile Groups installed.

I do "own" Profile Group Discussions and Profile Group Pages, but have not installed them yet.

Now what?

P.S. I updated the core, and now see Ning Group Support, Ningja, and the Ning Import etc amongst the modules waiting for updates, but am not proceeding til I hear what to do about my groups updates from you.

But you said:

You want me to first INSTALL the older "Profile Group Discussions" and "Profile Group Pages" that I 'own' but have not yet installed?

Just pushed out a small NingJa skin update to 1.0.4 that now adds Profile Comments to the profile index page.

Please let me know if anyone spots any issues.

Thanks!
