Is 32MB the absolute max' for video files or can this be increased?

I have just created a relevantly small video (MP4) using ScreenFlow 5, which is only 10 minutes long, but it exceeds 340MB in size.

I have had to use Vimeo due to the size restriction in the JR Video module.

Thank you!

Although I changed this and large files appeared to upload 100% - they always "fail to upload" at the last hurdle.

Because of this I removed the PHP.ini that I created.

However, I cannot get any videos files to play, even small ones which appear to upload ok. I always get an error message.

Yes I am getting the same error. Though they do load their thumbnail pic, I dont get the error until I click on the 'play' arrow.

My site's youtube and vimeo videos seem to be all playing ok, but the 'uploaded' ones give the same error that Alexander shows. It's only on the vids that have been actually uploaded to my Ning site htough- not the YT or Vimeo ones, which are working fine.

I just tried on your site too and the first issue i encountered was "You must be logged in to continue" when I tried to play the video.

I created an account and logged in and the "Give Thanks" video played fine.

My first guess is that you are using the jrUserLimit "User Daily Limits" module.

If thats right, check:
YOUR-SITE.COM/userlimit/admin/global

and see if the "Require Login Stream File" checkbox is checked.

Michael, thanks for checking this.
I unchecked both boxes in the User Daily Limits but still cannot play the video. The same error message appears. I also (later) set the limits to Max for both Video and Audio. But this makes not difference.
Also makes no difference if I am logged in or not. So I am rather stumped with this.

mmmm, its working for me at (not sure if you want your link public so):
YOUR-SITE.COM/(the directory)/admin/video/3/give-thanks-test-video

When I'm logged out, it plays now where it didn't before. Try logging out or a different browser.

The usual things to do when something doesn’t work is to run the integrity check and/or clear the caches.

Those processes are outlined here:

Done all suggested above. But no joy. I've tried both on my iPad and on my Mac Pro Desktop. Could be a Safari problem. will check using Chrome and Firefox.

I"m getting the same error using Chrome, but works fine in Firefox (although the quality is very poor) ???? Clearly a browser compatibility problem.

First ideas:

Try switching skin back to one of the default ones, then see if the video plays in chrome.

My guess would be if it does work after the skin is changed then it could be related to that red box on the side that you've added. Just a guess though as javascript is usually the first place that things break at.

See how that goes.

--edit--

I can see it breaking here in chrome too, so will see what I can figure out. the error is:
"206 Partial Content"

I think its the video. Try re-uploading it.

Take a look at the video I uploaded in chrome, it seams to play for me. You?

I upload another/a different small video (.mov - Movie File) which appears to work OK, although takes a while to load.

Will be monitoring this.

Thanks.

I've been testing the JR Video Player with various types of video format and file size.

Most videos will only play in the Firefox web browser.

I have used the same videos files for YouTube and Vimeo and there has not been a conversation or loading problem.

I think the problem may be that LARGER files do not load in Chrome and Safari, although there is no problem with Firefox. Haven't tested in IE as we don't have a Windows-based computer.

I removed the Whose Among Us script, but this made no difference.

If I get any further info I'll post it.

Could it be because the videos require Flash to play, and you only have flash on your firefox browser?

Small video files seem to play OK in all browsers, but large videos will only load and play in Firefox.

The JR Video Player is not Flash-based as it is playable on iPad, which doesn't support Flash.

With that info my guess starts pointing towards the server and its ability to convert the video.

Both YouTube and Vimeo have a ton of processing power at their disposal to do the video conversion. What I suspect is that there is some sort of server limit on your account.

When a video is uploaded to your site, jamroom converts it into formats that are viewable via the web. For video that is:
* .flv
* .m4v

.flv is flash and plays in adobe flash player but wont play on some mobile phones (eg: iPhone ). and .m4v is for html5 players.

So when you upload a .mov file the server has a lot of work to do.

I suspect that firefox is playing it because it doesn't mind that the video is only half there but the other browsers are being more strict.

Take a look in your server's logs to see if there is anything that might indicate this is/is_not the case.

--edit--
We've got a system planned for cases like this that will allow you to out-source the conversion phase of the video/audio to some of our servers then pass back the finished playable version so you won't run into that sort of issue, but its a ways off yet.
