ok so im doing a test migration on a test domain
now assumming that once i redesign my site and get to a point where im happy and ready to do a full migration
can i do any of the following
option 1 and best option by far simply change the domain onthe server and or move it to a new account with the new domain and download a fresh archive and do a folder compare and only upload the files that differ or are new then import them in away that simply adds them to the existing files. or
option 2 move the site to the new domain using 1 of the above options then have to upload the full archive and import overwriting the existing (the upload process takes 3-5 days so id want to have a popup overlay on the old site sayingthat Anytrhing added during those few days will not transfer over)
or option 3 wich i suspect might bethe only option at least its thecase in moving other cms's server to server and thats to create a new domain account install the base cms script then overwrite the site bsackup files and database backup then do the full data import from fresh archive and again have to put a 5 day noticve that all content during that time will not transfer

oh and 1 other question i forgot to ask
i have a 2.0 (huge) and 3,0(small) site if the 3.0 achive toolsready in time can the 2 be easily merged into 1 site ..provided that all members that have accounts on both sites were told to use the same login info on both

I think that option 1 is the easiest and quickest.
The bad news is that I've not actually tried doing a partial import of just new files, but at this time, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
The good news is that this is exactly what I'll be doing for Ken at IndieGospel within the next few days, so hopefully I'll be able to report back here then that it can be done the option 1 way.
Hope that helps

Sorry forgot your second question.

I've only tried Ning2 archives so far. If Ning3 archives its sites in the same format, merging shouldn't be an issue, but again, we don't know that until we try it for the first time ;-)
So we need to wait and see what a Ning3 archive looks like.

awesome and being as mines a large network, and the fact that many files wouldnt downloadin the original archive and that im hopefully getting a full archive soon we might get a chance to test this on mine too
plus i know its a huge diference importing a small site like his and a large 1 like mine so look forward to being a test case for bigger networks

also, i just looked atthe site showcase and i see only music sites showcased i know jamrooms primarily designed for music but is flexible enough to do any type of ccommunity and i have alot of ideas for using jr to drasticly expand and improve my community so when its ready to go olive id love it if you conssidered it fior inclusion in the showcase as an example of a non music based community (or not music specific as i am planning on increasing the musical parts as well ofering bands a showcase and way to sell songs) just think it woukd be greatto show the flexibility and how it can be used for any type community especialy as more ning sites consider it as an option

Originally, eleven years ago, Jamroom was developed as a music CMS.
With the release of Jamroom5 nearly two years ago it was made totally flexible and general purpose. However it is still perceived as, and mostly used for music sites. Hopefully a few new converts from Ning can help change that perception ;-)

thats exactly why i offered to have mine as a examnple in the showcase.. provided ofcourse that u approve ofthe design and all once ive had a few weeks or months to perfect it
ofcourse tims (that wsas his name righgt" being a ministry sites a whole diferent direction then you add 1 thats more of a business like a law site or i know 1 ningsters got a great site for surveyers and just in 3 or 4 added sites it can really shows the range of possibilities

plus after googles panda updates that robbed me of 4/5ths of my trafic i sure couldnt hurt to have a lil exposure lol
