Your permissions are wrong.
Make sure you FTP the files up individually as the USER on your server. This will create the right permissions for each file.
DO NOT upload the zip package and extract it as it will use permissions of for eg. NOBODY

So Unzip the files on your computer then log in via filezilla etc (FTP) as the user of that folder/site and upload them that way.

Then run the install from your browser.

Where did you get up to?

Are you able to get to the screen shown on the second video?
http://ampps.com/demo

If you can, then the follow the steps in this video:
Easy Install Jamroom 5 CMS into cPanel server

When ampps is running you should be able to open:
http://localhost/ampps

and see that screen.

Can I install cpanel on os x?

It seams like your looking for ways to make things more difficult. Your production server is going to be running linux, so why not setup a linux test server.

but to answer your question, it looks like its possible.

"Cpanel For OS X"
http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/cpanel-os-x-1618.html

--edit--
It looks like the cheapest you can get a cpanel license for is $35/month. You can have a digital ocean server for $5/month.

Then follow the setup guide here:
"High performance jamroom on Digital Ocean"

Sounds like you might have an ampps install on your mac but you dont see the option to install Jamroom using Softaculuous?

If so, you need to update your scripts in the ampps admin control panel. Then you will see the option to install Jamroom.

I found the install but afterwards I'm still getting this...

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at admin@localhost to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

What are you doing when you get that? (what are the actions you performed just before this error)

What does it say in your server error log?

Do you have other sites working on your ampps server? If not, you will need to get your ampps setup working before installing a jamroom on it.

Where's the server log located? The steps: all I'm doing is clicking on "install"... nothing else. I'll try to install other apps.

Here's an Apache log:

Not sure then, but if you have a working ampps you should be able to download the jamroom core files and place them in your /Applications/AMPPS/www/jamroom directory (no need to use ftp), create the database using phpmyadmin and then run the installer.

When I do that, I get...

Unable to find the .htaccess file - please ensure the .htaccess from the Jamroom 5 Core ZIP file is uploaded to your server.

Then make sure you are copying the htaccess file as well. It's an invisible file by default on mac, so google a way to make that visible.

Alternatively, rename the downloaded and unzipped jamroom directory to "jamroom" and place that in your Applications/AMPPS/www directory overwriting what you have in there.

I've tried all of the above and still get:

If it still doesn't work once you have verified that you have the htaccess file in place you'll need to get in touch with ampps support and see if they can help.

Doing a search for "Unknown filter provider DEFLATE" provided this:

http://sanjoyroy.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/apache-an-unknown-filter-was-not-added-deflate/
Quote: My ‘apache_error.log’ was logging an error ‘An unknown filter was not added: DEFLATE’ for every request. This is how I resolved it.

Open httpd.conf in C:\xampp\apache\conf went to line 93 and removed the # before the line LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so (using notepad)
Restart the apache.

Then it's not working - you'll need to remove that line. Most like the apache module is not enabled, or you are not allowed to use it.

Contact your hosting provider for assistance, as this really is not a Jamroom issue but a hosting issue.

Thanks!

Lol - so sorry. I should have started from the top of the thread, so ignore my previous brain dead response...

I don't run AMMPS here. Did you run the a2enmod deflate? Did that work?

Thanks!

I don't understand what that means "a2enmod deflate". I opened the Apache config file and removed # before the deflate statement... what else should I do?

Just removing the # comment sign doesn't do anything. Did you restart Apache? "a2enmod" is an apache command line program for enabling modules (i.e. "Apache 2 Enable Module"):

http://man.he.net/man8/a2enmod

However, since this is going to just be for testing, just comment out the DEFLATE line in Jamroom's .htaccess file and be done with it - it's not needed for development.

Have you tried setting up on an actual linux system? Do you mean that you've never been able to use Jamroom since 2005 since you cannot get it working on your PC?

follow this guide:

https://www.jamroom.net/brian/documentation/guides

to setup a $5 dev system on Digital Ocean. Unfortunately I don't use AMPPS so cannot help you with the setup for it.

Sorry!
