Marketplace updates- Sometimes have to install twice

This is a new problem as updates through the marketplace have always installed first time.
I am finding now that the last few updates when I click
Install All Updates
It goes through as though it is installing then instead of showing
All items up to date
After I hit the close button it shows the modules again that need installing.
So I click update all again and then they install.

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this
Using Firefox 27.0 for Mac

Update: Ok I restored an older backup and it is still doing the same
Checked the folder on the server before updating the second time
All the new folders are there ( eg jrOneAll-release-1.1.7 ) but the marketplace still shows they need updating.
Update again through marketplace and it shows all up to date.

Weird - I've not see this before. The update stats are stored (temporarily) in the jr_jrcore_temp table - the only thing I can think is that the temp item is being deleted before it is complete.

See if it continues going forward - if it does, I would have to specifically look at your system as I've never seen this (nor has it been reported) before.

Thanks!

This happened to me yesterday - I assumed it was an isp thing and clicked all the buttons to update the modules one at a time.

I've seen it once on a system behave where when I clicked "Update All Modules" and there were a lot of modules to update where it got stuck on one consistently.

The solution in this case was to update a few individually, one at a time, until the list got small, then "Update All Modules" worked fine for the remaining.

I chalked it up to limited resources on the server.

Tried updating user, developer and profiles modules today from a place with a really good internet connection.

The behaviour was different, it just hung twice on profiles (after modal reports it has installed user and developer). Refresh the page and none of the modules are installed.

I then installed developer using the individual update button, tried the update all again and it worked.

Hmm.. I actually do this all the time and have not seen this. It should just go through and update each one individually, the same as doing them one at a time (the function it runs is identical, it just loops over them).

I'll keep an eye out for it here and see if I can duplicate.

Thanks!

I can't actually buy things via the marketplace (although I want to, and keep trying), and I can't give you access to my localhost setup, so I guess I'm of no further use on this one.

My guess would be server php timeout settings.

When I saw it it always stopped at the same point in the list of functions while running the update all but there was no problem when updating that module individually.

Have never seen it happen on my local machine.

I just ran it here on a site I had not updated in some time and it all went through no problem - if you guys can narrow it down to a specific module it is stopping on, let me know.

Thanks!

In the case that I saw on a customers machine it stopped on jrStore which was down near the bottom of the list 'S'.

Thats why i guess the time it takes. If the execution of the php script was taking longer than the server settings allowed for it, it wouldnt finish.

but then the quicker individual updates would finish.

Its a guess, but seams plausable.

Yeah not a bad idea - I will check out the marketplace module and make sure the max execution time is setup properly, as that very well could be what we're seeing here. All my sites are on DO, so they update really fast, but someone with a server on the other side of the world might take a bit to update.

Thanks!

Okay - I just pushed up version 1.0.12 of the Marketplace that adds in max_execution times - update and let me know if that fixes the issue.

Thanks!

I cant check it anymore as I dont have a system that will fail. But will keep an eye out for it in future to see and will wait when I have a system where its reproducable to use it for testing.

This has just happened to me again.

I installed 4 module updates earlier today using the Update All button, it worked perfectly.

I just noticed a jrDeveloper update appear so clicked the Update All button (although there was only the one). The update appeared to install successfully, and success was reported in the modal, but when the page refreshes on closing the modal the update is still in the list of available updates.

The log reports that the update was successful as well:
Quote: 02/13/14 04:57:24PM 127.0.0.1 [SteveX] : all marketplace updates successfully installed
02/13/14 04:57:23PM 127.0.0.1 [SteveX] : successfully updated module jrDeveloper from version 1.1.1 to 1.1.2
02/13/14 04:57:19PM 127.0.0.1 [SteveX] : installing all marketplace updates

I then tried emptying caches and returning to Marketplace system updates, the update still shows as unapplied. The jrDeveloper-release-1.1.2 dir has been downloaded to the site, and the alias jrDeveloper shows as updated at the time I clicked update all.

I haven't clicked the update all or the update button since, so if there is anything you want me to check out just let me know.

When I click the changelog I do see the 1.1.2 version of the changelog:

Quote: Developer Tools module changelog
Version 1.1.2: - Bug Fix: Clone Skin returning error that skin name must be 3 characters or longer

And when looking at the jrDeveloper info tab, that shows as version: 1.1.2

Ah, returning to the marketplace I see a core update.

Installed that, The module was successfully updated, and it shows jrDeveloper still in need of updating.

If I global $_mods; fdebug($_mods); jrDeveloper shows as [module_version] => 1.1.1

After running the integrity check with clear caches it shows as 1.1.2. Revisiting the marketplace and jrDeveloper no longer shows as needing an update.

So whatever the problem is it is fixed by running the integrity check, no need to update again.
