Will jamroom be affected if the below code is commented out , what do they control ?
#Options +FollowSymLinks
#Options -MultiViews -Indexes -ExecCGI

Yes - this one is needed for Jamroom to function properly.

These control how the web server works. The other Options are not required, but are recommended to make your Jamroom setup safer.
