When you assign a profile question to a particular quota, shouldn't that question pop up after that quota is selected by the user on the sign up form?

The signup forms are not ajaxified, they are not fully reloaded after a user selects an option.

The options will be available to that user in their profile update page after they have signed up.

They would probably also be there if that is the only signup quota. Or if the quota was selected when the page was created.

They are not there by default.

Yeah unfortunately this does not work this way - the "signup questions" are really only used by Ning converts, and it's not something our core User module supports.

For now I would just give the quota option during signup - you can even make them have descriptive quota names - and then have your signup questions be part of their user info. I know that's not ideal, but is what is supported.
