I have been trying and trying to install jamroom 5! All I get is

403
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /modules/jrCore/router.php on this server.

I've spoken to the webhost, they say everything's fine their end, but that the files aren't loading correctly. All i did was ftp the files as per instructions.

What am I doing wrong?

sounds like the permissions are incorrect - did you change them, or upload them as a different user or something?

The CHMOD should be 755 for folders and 644 for files.

Did the .htacces file get uploaded?

A 403 is almost always permissions - you'll want to get access to the web server error_log so you can see exactly what the issue is (that's the web server error log, not Jamroom's error log). Your web hosting provider may need to get it for you if they have not made it available to you in a control panel.

Hope this helps!

hi brian

they did that, and said there was nothing there, thats why they said it was all fine their end and something was wrong with the files that were uploaded

I believe they are wrong - a 403 is certainly logged to the web server error log, unless they have specifically suppressed it. Without that log message we're just going to be grasping at straws to what the root cause is. It could be a rule in the .htaccess file, it could be ownership/permissions on the file, etc. - the error log entry is what will tell us.

i don't know what to say...there are no errors logged

What is the last entry in the web server error log? Is it working?

Just to add - if the last entry in the web server error log is just a "apache startup" message, then it means your hosting provider has disabled logging.
