For the first time I wanted to test being a stranger and signing up for my site just now....to see what they see and need to fill in to become a new member.
I'm not quite 'getting it' though.
As admin, first I put the check in the "user signups" box, saved. Then I logged out and could now see the choice of Login or Create Account.
Went to create new account, and all I see is "repeat password" (??), followed by my 3 custom signup questions, and then the "Create New Account" button. I filled in a NEW password but nowhere to put in a new user name or email...and i get the error message. See screenshot.
What am i doing wrong? Shouldn't I be able to log out and then create a test member from scratch with all new user info?
And why the single 'repeat password' when I didn't even put it in to begin with yet? And why does it say the user NAME is already taken when I didn't even put a user name in yet? Confused...

It sounds like you have modified your signup form and set some of the fields to not show to "all". Go to your signup form as the master admin and click on "Form Designer".

Go into each field and make sure the Display Group is set to "all" and then save.

Remind me please where I find my "signup form"...? (my brain is fading for the day I guess)

OK, I got it- Done and it's working! :) You were right about why this was happening. thanks

So...is there a pathway to click one's way to the site/user/signup page without having to quaintly type it into my browser window?

When you are logged in, the "create account" link is not shown (since you are already logged in, you don't need one) - so this is one form that you will just want to remember - if you need to adjust the form, just type in the URL.
