solved Changing domains with Arvixe

I have a hosting account with Arvixe (will be moving to Jamroom hosting when I've finished testing and am sure this is going to fly!), and my JR installation is at the 'main' location - iamtimbo.com.

I have registered ourtownstory.co.uk with GoDaddy. I've looked at some other posts on here about working with Arvixe, but I'm very paranoid about nuking my site! I see @paul's reply to @claygordon in this thread - https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/ning-to-jamroom/21426/going-live-on-new-domain-in-hours-need-clarification-on-new-base-url-tool - but I'm not using an add-on domain.

Is the process the same when it's not an add-on domain?

This should be pretty straightforward.
When you create your Jamroom Server you can then create another install with the domain ourtownstory.co.uk - a temporary domain of ourtownstorycouk.jamroomhosting.com will be created.
There's then a tool to import your Arvixe site to it.
When that is done and tested, click the button to switch the temporary domain to the main one. Log into GoDaddy and set the ourtownstory.co.uk DNS to point to the Jamroonm server.
Wait a few hours and you then should be good to go.

Hi Paul,

Sorry - I wasn't clear (although that's good to know for when I move!)- I just want to point ourtownstory.co.uk to the arvixe install for the time being.

I've bashed on at GoDaddy, and that's now got the Arvixe nameservers set up (and in fact I now get the cPanel error page, so it's already pointing the right way). I guess I now park ourtownstory.co.uk at Arvixe, and update the jamroom url and clear the caches...?

Thanks Brian - going to take the plunge - any optimal order to doing it? JR first and then server, or doesn't matter?!

Most likely you need to do Arvixe first to make sure the domain is setup properly - it should be resolving before you make the changes to JR or you won't be able to access it - let me know if that makes sense.

Thanks!
