Updating system/modules issues

So I did a fresh install yesterday on my newly-setup DO server (great guide, Brian! :). Today 5.1.3 was released, so I went to update, but it said 5.1.2 was still the latest and there were no updates. I realized I hadn't put in my license yet, so I went to the Marketplace > Tools, and put my email and license for the Jamroom Network. I then went to system updates, and it said the core could now be updated to 5.1.3. I clicked on "update all" (even though there was only one, I figured I'd just do that anyways), and this is the output I got:

Quote: All items have been successfully updated - click the close button to validate the update

error updating module: jrAction - no license
error updating module: jrProfile - no license
error updating module: jrUser - no license
error updating module: jrCore - no license

So even though it said everything updated successfully, nothing actually go updated, and I was a bit confused. I went back to the system updates and clicked on the update button next to the core this time (instead of "update all"), and it was successful. When the page reloaded, the jrAction, jrProfile, and jrUser modules were now available to update also. I hit "update all" and they all updated successfully.

It looks like everything is up to date now, but just thought I'd let you know because that wasn't what I was expecting to happen.

Actually, I had the same thing happen to me earlier today, but wasn't sure if I'd mis-clicked or something.

So on a brand new install, if you have never visited the "System Updates" page before, the very first time into that section any licenses will be generated for the installed items that are free (in this case the core set of modules). So after you updated the core module, on the "reload" the licenses were all in place which is why it looked better.

I've actually had this on my to-do for a bit - detect when the licenses get created/associated and maybe automatically refresh the page so you don't see that "no license" stuff on that first load.

When in doubt, just refresh if you see errors as the back end is pretty good at straightening out issues when it can.

Hey guys,

Just updated to 5.1.4 so I wanted to check in on this. I clicked on "update all" again, and it went through and said everything was successful in the modal window, but when I closed it, it still showed that I needed to update jrCore to 5.1.4. I clicked on the update button next to just 5.1.4, and everything went through again and said it was ok, and when the modal closed it said I had no new updates. This was in my log:

Quote:
12/02/13 10:59:51AM x.x.x.x [ksmith] : successfully updated module jrCore from version 5.1.3 to 5.1.4
12/02/13 10:59:28AM x.x.x.x [ksmith] : all marketplace updates successfully installed
12/02/13 10:59:27AM x.x.x.x [ksmith] : successfully updated module jrMarket from version 1.0.4 to 1.0.5
12/02/13 10:59:25AM x.x.x.x [ksmith] : successfully updated module jrCore from version 5.1.3 to 5.1.4

Just thought that was a bit funky.

On a side note, when I first logged in to the CP, I looked at the system check, and there was a green light next to system core showing 5.1.3. I think it would be helpful if this could show it was out of date too and maybe provide a link to update via the marketplace.

Thanks,

Kyle

It sounds like you were seeing some cached stuff there. What you should see if that when you go into the System Update, you will only see the core (since you must update the core first), and after updating the core you will see the reset get listed.

I just did it here on a system I hadn't been on in a while and it worked. If you hadn't updated in a while, there have been some tweaks and fixes in the Marketplace in the last week which might clean some things up for you.

Thanks!
