I think I've made a mess of my set up.

Hi,
I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure things out, and I either made a mess of the import ( I am not even sure if I got the import in right) or I messed up some sort of configuration. Is there a way to reset everything? I think I did that by deleting the cache, but I am not sure. I don't want to give up on the platform.. but to be honest, I am lost. I just keep going around and around and getting no where. I am presently working with drop and drag, but if the Ninga skin is easier, then I'll do that. I

For now I would recommend NOT using Site Builder. Until you get a handle on how Jamroom works, trying to "design" your site is just going to add more complexity when you don't need it.

You can do a full reset of the system as the master admin go to:

ACP -> Tools -> Developer Tools -> Tools -> Reset System

After that go to ACP -> Skins -> NingJa and check the "active" checkbox and make it your active skin.

Then re-run the Ning Import.

The important thing at this point is to begin understanding how Jamroom works - once you are comfortable with that THEN move on to more custom and complicated tasks.

Let me know if that helps.

Brian,

I am not sure if you made a mistake in the directions or that my set up is messed up. There was no tools offered under the ACP. I found it on the side column of choices. I did the system reset from there too. But now that I did that, I still see the other skins there but not active. How should I proceed?

Also, do I have to set up my mailgun again?

That is correct. Your "ACP" is the "Admin Control Panel". When you click on it you will be taken to a screen where there are lists of modules, separated by category, on your LEFT. On your RIGHT will be the results of what you click.

At the top of the column on the left click on "SKINS".

Next, click on "NingJa".

Put a checkmark in the "Set As Active Skin" and save.

That will change your skin to NingJa.

OK got that done. So here is where I am at. I have downloaded all the Ning archive and I am trying to follow Strumelia's directions, but there are so many options at on firezilla connection board, that I am worried to do the wrong thing. For instance, I don't see log in type "normal" anywhere. I also don't see where to pick SFTP. Here is what I have:

Can you tell me how I am supposed to configure this. I am not sure what to do with each of the Ning archives.

In the very upper left, click the little icon that looks like a computer. That will be where you want to enter the info to connect to your site.

Perrie maybe this picture will help...

Also, go to filezilla upper left click on FILE.... Site Manager...that's where you'll fill in the info you are lookng for. then bookmark the connection once you successfully connect.

Thanks so much for your help. I think the issue is that I am seeing something different from what you just posted there. The screen that I posted is the first thing I see. For instance, there is no file option, like you have. Also I am confused when to make that Ning file. This download took forever and I don't want to lose it.

Since you are on a Mac, your "file" will be in the top menu on your system. OR you can click on the little computer like I outlined above.

OK so you got a connection! Bookmark and name the connection so you can use the same settings and 'QuickConnect' from now on. Remember that most all the stuff you will be UPLOADING to your server should go in your public_html folder on your server.
You already have your Ning archive uploaded to your Ning_Archive folder on your server, right? But you did not do your import yet? (to import all your Ning stuff into your JR site)

Actually everything is still on the external hard drive and I am trying to figure out how to make the transfer.
I don't seem to have a public_html folder or at least I can't locate it. I'm still looking around.

I think I know why I am not getting this. I am using Jamrooms server. So what I have to do is transfer (somehow) the stuff on my external hard drive to the Jamroom server.

Yes you have to UPLOAD a copy of your whole Ning Archive folder to your Jamroom server.
Ideally, you should rename your Ning acrhive folder exactly to: Ning_Archive as the name.
Then you will need to upload that whole folder into your JR server folder called public_html.
(this is done BEFORE you can do any "import" of your ning content into your actual JR site) You have to get the archive there on your server before you can unpack/import the ning stuff from it.

I realize why the graphic you so kindly supplied me with, didn't look like what I was seeing. It's because I am on an apple and have a slightly different interface. But even if I wanted to give it a try, I couldn't. It seems that I am locked out of my site. Just one of those days. Ugggg.

New day, another try. This time I am using cyberduck, like in the video. I thought I had everything right, but now I am getting a message that Jamroom will not allow. Is it because I tried first with filezilla? Does something need to be reset from the Jamroom side of the server?

Are you sure you are putting in your jamroom SERVER password?... (not your jamroom forum password, not your jamroom site admin password, nor filezilla, or other passwords...) and did you get the correct IP adress from your JR server settings panel?

If you're not connecting, it is not setup right. Make sure you are using the values I responded with to your email.
