If the server meets these requirements it should work.

I'm looking at setting up a private media server, there will be no outside users except for a couple of admins. The point would be to stream video to one specific website by embedding in a specific forum on said website. No need for a blog or forums or shopping cart or any other such thing, I love the js player and see that you feature it.

Do you think Jamroom will work for this?

Yeah Jamroom should work no problem - just note that embedding jplayer is not like embedding a flash player - you'll need to embed the actual HTML - but if you have control over both systems that shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this helps!

Got another question,

I know you don't directly support setting up a server on anything but your own hosting, but you do have a guide for setting up a server on digital ocean to run Jamroom.
I've been trying to get it set up on a 60 gig droplet using your guide for two days now and just can't get it to work.

Will this run on the standard Digital Ocean Ubuntu lamp stack?

In the past I've set up Jamroom on a DO droplet by following the guide - http://www.jamroom.net/brian/documentation/guides/1188/high-performance-jamroom-on-digitalocean

What can you not get to work?

Hi Paul,

Memory that hasn't been used in 17 years is the basic problem ;-)

Sorry for the rant, I'm not used to manually configuring anything anymore, particularly a linux server...... I'll eventually get it, but some of it is re-learning things I've forgotten. It's not like riding a bike, it is one of those things that if you don't use it you DO lose it...

I'm at the optimizing PHP5 page now, it says that the max uploaded file size is one fourth the memory size in the server to allow for overhead in recoding video files. With 4 gig in the server, that means that the max files size I can upload to the server is 1 gig right?
I really need 2 gig, does that mean I need a bigger server?

On the optimizing I bumped the max upload file size to 2048M (2 gig) and will start with that, If I need a bigger memory set I'll bump to the next server level. which would be 8 gig.

Give it a whirl and see how it does. :)

On to postfix and mailgun, and I should be ready.

SSL will have to wait on the cert people

Ok I'm stuck, I'm sure this is a very simple fix though but I'm stumped.

Server is up and running, I'm getting the Apache/Ubuntu generic page when I go to www.nowhereman.tv so the server IS working.

Downloaded, unpacked, and ftp the Jamroom installation to my /nowhereman/public_html folder, and go visit the site in Firefox over the web.

I'm still getting the Apache/Ubuntu generic working page.

That's following the installation text to the letter.

What did I do wrong?

I recall this happening when I had a DO server and I think I fixed it just by restarting apache

hi Paul, yep restarted it twice, and just did a third time, still the same thing, Apache/Ubuntu default page.

Which of course sits at /var/www/html/

Is there a redirect I'm missing to point the server at Jamroom?
