Some basic questions about Genosis

What is the difference between the Profile types, Administrator, Researcher, and Contributor? What can each of these do?

Can Genosis be used for people with the same surname, e.g., Anderson, to add their own family tree ancestors and have the system identify common ancestors, and eventually common homelands in the past? Could Genosis be used to create a map of how this particular family name has travelled throughout time?

I have lots more questions about the capability of Genosis, but I thought I'd start with just a few.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Think of a "researcher" as like a profile admin - they can update all Genosis profiles - just like a regular JR admin. A contributor is just someone that "owns" a profile.

As for surnames - yes - you can "build off" as many profiles as you want. For example - you could set the home profile for one of your relatives in the tree as their profile, then they can "add" parents, siblings, etc (as long as they are a researcher). That's how I run things on my family tree site - for example my sister has a profile and can add relatives as needed. The map that is part of Genosis right now is just based on birth dates - not names (and with Google getting rid of some of their map stuff it may not make it for long).

Genosis is super flexible - I'd recommend getting in and playing around with it - you'll find there are lots of shortcuts to make things easy.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help Brian. I'm struggling to get my head around what the various quotas can and can't do, and I still have a ton of questions about how to use Genosis.

I'll set up a new JR server at the weekend and transfer my install over. That way I can use the support ticket system for help rather than the forum.

I'll open a ticket before I purchase the new server just to let you know what I'm planning to do.

Cheers.
