Is there a way to attach documents to a person? Im thinking pdfs etc. Published papers by that person or other things which are not images?

You can use the File module to allow profiles to create downloadable files.

Marketplace:

Your ACP > Core > Marketplace:
/marketplace/browse/module?search_string=jrFile
