solved Genosis Setup

I have a couple of questions re: Genosis

1. Can I install it on my Jamroom server (currently hosting americymru.net) and if so is there any extra charge or does the disc usage etc simply count towards my overall usage total on my current plan.

2. Is there anyway that current AmeriCymru members can be counted as members of both sites without a separate login.

3. Can ALL individual members of a Genosis site create their own separate family trees? I seem to remember that a few years ago at least this was possible but that everyone had edit access to everyone elses data. Am I right and if so has this changed?

Hi Ceri
1) Yes, it can be installed on your existing server without additional costs, and will count towards your overall server usage.
2) No - your existing users will need to create new accounts on a different Jamroom install.
3) Genosis is not multi-user. It is designed for a single admin user and invited family members.
Hope that helps
Paul

OK many thanks for that but here is a supplementary question. And I know this may be more or less unanswerable :) If I were to offer my members their own individual Genosis install, how quickly could I expect to graduate to the next server plan. If for example 10 members took us up on the offer and started using their site how rapidly would I use up my server allocation do you think (roughly).

So, a separate Jamroom Genosis install per user? You would need a domain per user, of course. Each Genosis install would take up about 14MBytes of disk space. Add to that the database and other operating system stuff. Then they'll be uploading content, images and possibly other media. This is where it gets a bit tricky to estimate.
Are you planning on charging for this service?

Maybe...maybe not. Genealogy is huge over here and we want to cater to that enthusiasm. I think initially it would be free. BUT if there was a large uptake we would probably start charging new users whilst maintaining already established accounts free. That way we would have exemplary accounts to show potential new paid subscribers.

The other thing to consider is that whilst you can have multiple domains/Jamroom sites on your server, it then effectively becomes a 'shared' server with overall performance issues should any of the domains become particularly busy. If this idea takes off with many users you may need to consider a seperate server(s) - (again, difficult to define how many 'many' is but maybe 20/30 domains on a server).
Also, you are our customer, not all of your potential users, so make sure you know Genosis well and are able to support your users directly with their questions about it.
