I spoke to @michael about this at length through irc.
He said it could be doable.
great seeing whats happening with your followers etc but would be better to see any responses straight away instead of having to click through to the timeline comments page.

I am wondering how easy it is to basically turn the timeline feed into a Facebook clone of sorts.
  • In the feed section you would be limited to more characters instead of the default 140
  • The feed would display say the last 3 comments under the main feed
  • The users could comment ( as long as they were following you ) straight under the feed
  • Then after submitting it would reload at the top showing the new comment + say another two with a read more button which would then take you to the full feed.
Below is a PS mockup so you get what I mean

You could even start with the replies collapsed then have a + - to open them easily enough accordion style

I've actually been working on something like this for the past few weeks.
There may well be a couple of modules available soon to make it easy to give your site 'Facebookish' features.

One thing that would make this difficult is that the jrAction module requires all the other modules to supply it with a .tpl file.

You will see:
item_action.tpl

in a lot of the modules. To clone the jrActions module with the purpose of making a wall one instead looks like it would require other modules to also add that file.
