modifying events calander for special use

hi, i am recreating freedomswings.org (i'll be flying again with them starting Wednesday)
freedomswings currently uses 3 diferent sites when all they need is 1 on jamroom to do it all
the 1 sites pilotscheduling.com or something like that

the events calander would need to be modified in a way that:
1: has a drop down menu that lists when each plane and instructor is booked or available
2: once you select a plane or instructor you can add your "event" which would just be your name and the plane and times scheduled then repeat for the instructor so the date and timeframe you select would have your name the plane your name and the instructor
3 it should also alert you if theres a scheduling conflict like the plane or instructors already assigned to that timeframe.

note we have 2 planes at 2 diferent airports so an instructor could be matched with a diferent pilot in a diferent plane at a diferent airport .. so schedule conflict checks are a must

we will also have a general (public) events calander that uses the calander in the normal way
the scheduling calander will be for logged in members only
is this something we can do?
also, @paul you had created a module or combo of modules that used the google maps and geolocation
most of our pilots fly locally to the airports ..but some fly cross country, and even compete in regional competitions..which sometimes results in a glider landing in a field
since most of our pilots are disabled ..having a way to track on the site where the planes landed could be a huge help

anyway can you think of any way to possibly use the event calander in this way?
can a modification of the calander be created as a scheduler
we would certainly be willing to pay for the specialized module
i believe they already pay for the pilotscheduling site use and it would be far better to have it all on 1 site

i assume it would be simple enough using the form editor to create special fields for the planes and instructors
and modifying the templates to list those fields is easy enough...i think
but making adding a new event automaticly add the event as just your username and the resource (plane or instructor) (and the ability to add a comment)
i'm not sure how to do this
i think..now that i think about it a special template would just need to be created that for the event title just combines the username and the resource being viewed (from drop down menu)
or maybe it would be simpler to just have 1 event scheduled with checkboxes for the plane and instructor you plan to use?
the way they have it nows kinda awkward since you 1st have to schedule the plane then a second event scheduling the instructor

that does seem the simplest route so the only thing id need to figure out is how to get it to automaticly fill in the event name with username plane and instructor

any suggestions or help would be appreciated as i think this maybe the most confusing and tricky part of the site redesign

I can't really answer most of your question, but can say (for the google maps part) that the ujGoogleMaps module doesn't track glider landings and as far as I know it would be next to impossible to modify it to do so.

Also, a booking calendar is a very different beast to the events listing module. You might be better off customising your booking system to automatically add bookings to your Jamroom events listings.

paul modified the google maps to allow mobile phones that enabled it to track eachother and alow users to find eachother at events .. the same technology would alow the site to track a mobile device with gps enabled thats onboard the glider

thats a very low priority extra that i thought might be useful
i think theres got to be a way to use the events as a booking system
if not i might pay a freelancer to create a custom module based off the events calandar that would handle the functions i need
but can't do that till i discuss it with the board of directors

That does sound interesting. Could just ask the pilots to enable that on their phones and then you could track that to see where they landed? Hopefully the pilot would stay fairly close to the glider ;)

well that's the thing... they are disabled pilots unable to get out of the glider till someomne brought their wheelchairs haha so they couldn't walk to a house to call for assistance or anything like that...

Maybe they could use their phone to call for assistance?

But don't freedomwings already somehow track where a glider lands? How do they usually get their glider back from the wheelchair user?

they almost never have a landout situation, yes they could call for help and say..hey i'm in a field somewhere.. they can say i'm somewhere within a few miles of a landmark.. but without going to a house for an address all they can say is i'm in a field near a big tree come find me
we do have a couple pilots who compete in cross country races now, and that's something im extremely interested in
and that's where the chances of landing in a field come in
normally you don't go beyond gliding distance from your home airport unless you have enough altitude to reach an alternative airport and go on from there
but the 1 location has ridge soaring using mountain lift which allows for hundreds of miles flights and that drasticly increases the chance of landing in a remote field with nothing nearby
(been practicing on a competitive soaring simulator by trying to break the world record.. 4 trips the entire length of the alps crossing 5 countries borders 4 times each) that type of hard core soaring your often left looking for a field to land in

That sounds like a lot of fun!

The Jamroom side of things sounds like a complex and long term project, good luck with that.

Enjoy your flight on Wednesday man :)

sure will and yea im really not quite sure how i want to proceed
what skin will be best to build off of
only ningja seems to be not specificly for music or photos or anything like ecommerce but without the ning import that gives you the basic structure you have to build every single thing ..so i dunno yet what skin i'm going to start off from yet
i think 1 that's mostly for social networks is best but that seems like ningja ...
I've barely even gotten the front page started so far and already second guessing my choices
