Has The Jamroom Site Showcase Been Removed?

Used to be a list of links to sites built on Jamroom as examples- but I can no longer find it?
The reason I ask is that awhile back there was a site added that was a custom site built by Douglas that I REALLY liked- it had a completely different look than anything in the Jamroom skins and I was hoping maybe someday somthing similar would be released as a JR skin to purchase- wanted to go back and look at it for ideas

Sorry, it doesn't look like the showcase module is installed here on jamroom.net.

You don't happen to know the name of the site your referring to do you?

Thanks!

"Showcase"

Don't think we link to it anymore in the main navigation but the page is still there.

Yes, AllPro is one of my design projects. There was another, Baxter Electric, but they decided to go a different route with their website so it was removed.

Yeah the site I am thinking of when I looked at the skin reminded me of a Bootstrap or Wordpress style theme...I really liked it- was hoping to pull some ideas from it

I get an error when i try to 'like' any of the sites in the Showcase. A popup just says "Jamroom.net has encountered an error in saving the Like".

Curtis can you remember what the site's theme was...was it a music site or something else?

Yeah... the sites in the showcase are quite dated. Do we have some newer JR5 sites? I too remember something that looked more like a Bootstrap site and was good. I'd love to see more modern examples.

If it was a Bootstrap site it wasn't one I worked on, I don't care for Bootstrap, its a little bloated for my taste. ;)

No it wasn't a "bootstrap" site - it just had the appearance of a bootstrap or wordpress site- by that I mean a real modern look of content blocks- real clean layout that displays similar to sites you see made with bootstrap or wordpress at least in appearance
Not being critical or anything just to me and my tastes I felt it was something I always wanted to acheive here :)

I think we need to do a better job of soliciting sites - the sites you see on the list are ones added directly by our members - there's no "design" criteria applied. I know you're coming from Ning - almost every Ning site that has contacted us about moving to JR has for the most part insisted on keeping the SAME look and feel for their site.

N8Flex has quite a number of designs here:

https://www.jamroom.net/n8flex/networkmarket

that you might like. For the most part the skins WE have developed fall into a few categories:

1) Jamroom 5 skins that are "clones" of Jamroom 4 skins (such as Sage, Flashback, Nova, etc.) - these skins were designed to keep "true" to their look in Jamroom 4, and have not changed much since then.

2) the default Elastic and Lucid skins - these are VERY simple and are built as a "starting point" for customizing and creating your own skin

3) the "pro" skins (media pro, pro jam) - these are music oriented skins we took over from Oinkba design that are geared towards music communities

4) Ningja - this skin tries to put the "groups" support of Jamroom front and center since this seems to be the area that Ning users are most concerned with.

Building a skin that is both simple to customize and expand AND has "slick and modern" features that some people want (i.e. lots of Javascript base sliders, menus, etc.) is harder than it may seem on the surface. Most of the slick features are going to be harder or trickier to customize for the majority of our users, and on the other hand keeping it simple means new users to JR think that JR skins don't offer enough.

We have some ideas we are working on that hopefully can address some of this down the road.

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

The Ning platform continues to awkwardly lurch towards its demise, so it couldn't hurt to have the JR showcase spruced up for visitors. :)

There are plenty of professional people/sites that have been left hanging by Ning. I'm one of them. Sorry I'm here? Thanks for the welcome? Nevermind...

derrickhand was a ningster too, think hes talking about himself. It can be frustrating having to learn a new system. He's doing great now and I'm sure you'll get there too @clrkprsn :)

Yep- came over from ning and moved my ning site here then created several new sites on the JR platform
My remark was of course tongue in cheek humor as i ran these support guys ragged trying to learn all I needed to know- ALWAYS great support though

My remark was meant to infer " Don't wish for too many more like myself here" because i was a real pain in the butt to help and I would hate for JR to have to deal with a boatload like myself

Anyways- WELCOME!

Getting left hanging out to dry was a frustrating experience over at Ning- Started over there on Ning 1.0- had 2 sites and was paying $89 bucks a month- lots of promises about enhancements but all I saw was them taking away features that already existed right up to the point where they just stopped monitoring their forum at all

SO I know how frustrating it is and I know you can make JR work with effort and IN THE END you will be on a much more powerful platform

Again my apologies if I offended you

You're all good. :-)

And yes, we are perhaps a pain in the butt to help. Support from the devs has been good here. Now if I could have this data migration done so my JamRoom site was live, I'd be much less grumpy.

Cheers!

Clrk- you will get there! Make lists and tackle each thing in order. You'll learn from every step.
I struggled for a while (came from Ning 2.0 a year ago). My site is doing GREAT on Jamroom and I love it.

Every day I learn a bit more here and there about running my site and tweaking code. I'm no coder by far, but I am learning slowly to manage my site and my codes myself....and the JR support team is just wonderful. I know so much more now as compared to a year ago, I get myself into trouble waaaay less often than I used to. ;)
Jamroom just keeps getting better and better by leaps and bounds.

Just a reminder that you have a support ticket open about this that we are awaiting a response from you about. Check that out and when we know which way you want to go we can progress your migration.
Thanks
