Which is the best demo template for development? Which demo template has the most features and should be used as a basis for custom template development?

Looking at the existing demo templates, it appears the Pro Jam or Media Pro have the most features. What are the JR team members thoughts?

If your plan is to sell skins then you will have to start with one of the free ones. Otherwise it depends where you want to go Ningja has quite a few new concepts introduced around the profiles, where the two afore mentioned by you are the most complete on the frontend.

I reckon start with jrSlate. Build the site builder system into your development process so those receiving the end product have more features.

The difference between that method and building something like ProJam is that you can package multiple uses for the same skin by adding multiple package files.

In a standard skin you build the code you want into the page templates.

In Site Builder you build a base holder container then create widgets via the Site Builder system and export that.

In each of the Widgets you can add a 'template' which will correspond to the template in the skin so you can build lists with different styles than just the default.

Or start with Elastic and put site builder into it then do that ^^. Probably the best general way to build a skin 'coz its easily customized by the end user.

The alternative is to build a skin for a specific purpose. "Music" "Video" "Photography" "???" .....

I'm not looking to sell any skins. I'm looking for the skin which has the most features that I can use as a base to make my custom skin.

I haven't used sitebuilder. Maybe I should read up on how it works.

I actually use to own a copy of Pro Jam but for some reason that wasn't translated over to the new JR5. I paid the org developer of Pro Jam around $1000 to customize the JR4 Pro Jam skin, but I guess he doesn't own that anymore.

Hard to say because each skin has a different purpose. Genosis has a bunch of features, but those features are for creating Family ancestory websites so are un-related if your planning a music site.

Check out the demos and see if anything looks close to what your after and go from there.

The oinkba skins got ported to JR5 but its not a free upgrade. The prices of them came down from about $300 to $49 which is much more reasonable. They're nice skins for staring a music site on.

If you're comfortable editing code, then don't worry about integrating with Site Builder, its a system for those that don't want to look at code. You have more fine-grain control over building if you don't use it.

I'm going to be getting the unlimited subscription soon, so I believe PJ / MP will be included in the subscription.

Yea, sitebuilder isn't going to be for me, I'm coding most everything. I'm just basically looking for coding shortcuts that I can copy paste to save me time - why recode everything when I can grab it from a template. I based my JR4 template off of Nova which had a ton of options which I could modify. The thing I remember about PJ was events and the subscriptions pages. PJ had a nice setup for events and the subscriptions had a nice features listing page.

Yep, thats right, everything that 'the jamroom network' makes on unlimited domains, so that includes PJ /MP and all modules. So might as well pick all the bits from everywhere and combine them in a way that works for you.
