Make sure and check out our newest Jamroom 5 based project - Genosis:

https://www.jamroom.net/genosis/blog/40/genosis-jamroom-5-total-conversion

This week I'll be working on getting documentation in place, but for now the core system is ready to be released.

Make sure and post any questions or comments to the new Genosis profile forum:

https://www.jamroom.net/genosis/forum

and we can help.

Right now the Genosis bundle is priced at only $19 while it is in testing - we'd love to get your feedback - especially if you have previous experience with genealogical software.

Thanks everyone - I know this is not the "normal" Jamroom stuff, but it shows how flexible Jamroom 5 is as a platform - and we have more to come ;)

Thanks!

I've always thought that a family archive should place more emphasis on the people and stories, pictures and other related items as opposed to charts and dates. Kudos to you!

One thing I wonder when starting an archive like this is where to start the "tree". Does it matter in Gnosis? Is there a starting point or center or root person? Or is it essentially a collection of related profiles? I'd prefer the latter.

Then the question becomes what to call the website...

Yeah you can start "wherever" you want in the tree, although initially the only "profile" that will exist will be your own, so it's probably easiest to just start with yourself and work from there.

However, as the master admin you can always create a new tree, and it will ask you for the initial profile (ancestor) - just enter a name and a new tree will be created starting with that user. It's easy to then add parents/children however you like.

Hope this helps!

It is really nice but I think you should have spent your energy on something really related to Jamroom.

???? Genosis runs on Jamroom and nicely demonstrates that JR isn't just for music sites.

lol, what Paul said too :)

Try genosis out sekeri. Make a new dev site, install genosis, and look at the bigger picture. You aren't limited by Jamroom (in the way that you seem to be limiting it at least). Your "music" website/app can also be as different as Genosis (but probably with less dead people, and [hopefully] funkier).

If you have already installed it, try it out again and feel the breadth.

But on the downside, I couldn't find any ancestor info on the genosis free search services, but not too surprising really. I bet nsa/gchq deleted my ancestry because I went to live in Africa. Brian, when will Genosis be fixed to solve this?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Education, learning resources, TEL, AR/VR/MR, CC licensed content, panoramas, interactive narrative, sectional modules (like jrDocs), lunch at Uni of Bristol. Get in touch if you share my current interests or can suggest better :)

;)

FamilySearch should have something for you - they have records back to mid 17th century or so, and is a good (and free) place to start. Ideally start with your parents and grandparents and enter what you know of them (if you do) and work from there - most records pre-1940 are online now.

I'm happy to help with any research questions you might have - feel free to follow up on the Genosis forum.

Hope this helps!

Rumbled, but I'm still worried about the gchq issue.
